Rokni Haerizadeh
Rokni Haerizadeh (born 1978) is an Iranian artist living and working in Dubai. He participated in the Carnegie International in 2013. He is part of a collective Ramin, Rokni, Hesam Early life Rokni Haerizadeh was born in Tehran shortly before the start of the Iran-Iraq War. In a 2014 interview with Artforum, Haerizadeh described how his early experiences and questions about art were directly impacted by the war: "The TV programs at that time mostly depicted Islamic propaganda of the war, martyrs, and religion, but sometimes during the weekends they showed movies by directors such as Andrei Tarkovsky, Akira Kurosawa, Sergei Eisenstein Seeing, for example, a beautiful landscape with a man silently walking around for ten minutes moved me, and I wondered: Is that a movie? Ramin, Rokni, Hesam
Ramin, Rokni, Hesam are a UAE-based artist collective from Iran, consisting of Ramin Haerizadeh (1975, Tehran), Rokni Haerizadeh (1978, Tehran), and Hesam Rahmanian (1980, Knoxville) who's working and living together described as a project, since 2009. History The three artists met in underground drawing and painting classes in the early 90s, while Iran was recovering from an eight-year war (Iran-Iraq: 1980–1988). These classes were formed as a result of the Iranian Cultural Revolution that lead many students, educators and lecturers to take their classes inside their private homes. Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian's early collaborative practice formed as early as 1997 in Tehran, and the artists reside in the UAE since 2009. Akira Kurosawa
was a Japanese filmmaker and painter who directed thirty films in a career spanning over five decades. He is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential filmmakers in the history of cinema. Kurosawa displayed a bold, dynamic style, strongly influenced by Western cinema yet distinct from it; he was involved with all aspects of film production. Kurosawa entered the Japanese film industry in 1936, following a brief stint as a painter. Jean-Marc Decrop (born 1955 in France) is a specialist of Chinese contemporary art. He is one among the art collectors who have contributed to the discovery, the recognition and the influence of Chinese contemporary art abroad.
