The Rohrhardsberg is a mountain in the Central Black Forest in southern Germany. At 1,152.1 metres (3,780 ft) above sea level, it is the northernmost summit of the elongated, north-south oriented Farnberg Plateau that has several high points over 1,150 metres. The mountain is situated near Elzach in the state of Baden-Württemberg. Location The Farnberg Plateau, which includes the Rohrhardsberg lies in the triangle between the valleys of the Elz, Oberprechtal and Simonswäldertal. Its highest summits are the Griesbacher Eck,() which rises south of the Rohrhardsberg, and, further to the southwest, the Obereck (). The boundary between the counties of Emmendingen, in the west, and Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis, in the east, runs over the summit crest. Its highest point is the east top of theGriesbacher Eck at (). Elz (Rhine)
The Elz is a river in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, a right tributary of the Rhine. It rises in the Black Forest, near the source of the Breg. The Elz flows through Elzach, Waldkirch and Emmendingen before reaching the Rhine near Lahr. Its length is approx. . The lower reaches of the Elz are by-passed by the Leopold Canal, a flood relief canal. Course The Elz rises north of Furtwangen in the area of the Brend and the Rohrhardsberg mountains (between the Furtwänglehof and the Kolmenhof) not far from the source of the Breg which is hydrographically the source of the Danube. In its upper reaches the Elz flows in a northerly direction, initially through a high valley with pasture land, bog and ice age glacial landforms. Then after a steep drop at the little '' Elz Falls'', it continues through a deeply incised, wooded and sparsely populated V-shaped valley. Brend (mountain)
The Brend is a mountain, ,{{GeoQuelle, DE, BFN-Karten in the Central Black Forest in Germany. It is the highest point in the borough of Furtwangen of which it is the ''Hausberg''. Location Located in the county of Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis, the Brend is its second highest point after the elongated Rohrhardsberg-Farnberg Plateau. Before the 1973 county reform it was the highest point in the county of Donaueschingen. The southern mountainside of the Brend lies in the parish of Simonswald in the county of Emmendingen. There it is the third highest point, together with the Rosseck, after the Kandel and the Rohrhardsberg-Farnberg Plateau. In the wake of an exchange of territory in 1977, ownership of the observation tower, the restaurant and a farmstead on the northwestern slopes was transferred from Obersimonswald, Emmendingen, to the town of Furtwangen, Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis. Schwedenschanze
There are numerous prehistorical and early historical ringworks and fortification ramparts in Central Europe that have erroneously, usually colloquially, been given the name Schwedenschanze, which means "Swedish redoubt", a ''schanze'' being a hastily erected, military fieldwork. History This name arose in connexion with the fighting during the Thirty Years' War, when the population of the Holy Roman Empire often used old field fortifications as refuge castles or hidden livestock pens. Particularly in Catholic areas this action was taken to protect people from the Protestant forces of the Swedish king, Gustavus II Adolphus. Whether the individual fortifications were actually used as fighting positions, however, is usually speculative. Central Black Forest
The Central Black Forest (german: Mittlerer Schwarzwald), also called the Middle Black Forest, is a natural or cultural division of the Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. It generally refers to a region of deeply incised valleys from the Rench valley and southern foothills of the Kniebis in the north to the area of Freiburg im Breisgau and Donaueschingen in the south. Its highest area, which is southeast of the Elz valley, is also part of the High Black Forest. Geography The dominating valley system of the Kinzig cuts through the Middle Black Forest from east to west. Obereck (mountain)
At the Obereck is the third highest mountain of the Central Black Forest after the Kandel (mountain), Kandel and the Weißtannenhöhe. The three mountains also lie within the area designated as the High Black Forest. Location The Obereck lies in the east of the municipality of Simonswald above the village of Hintergriesbach. Its rounded summit or ''kuppe'' lies on a ridge that is especially sharp in the area of the Schultiskopf, and which runs away from the main chain between the Rohrhardsberg and Brend (mountain), Brend descending westwards into the valley of the Wild Gutach (Simonswälder Tal) some 700 metres lower down. It is bounded by the valleys of the tributary streams, the Griesbach to the south and the Haslachsimonswälder Bach to the north (Kostgfäll Gorge). A wind turbine is a device that converts the kinetic energy of wind into electrical energy. Hundreds of thousands of large turbines, in installations known as wind farms, now generate over 650 gigawatts of power, with 60 GW added each year.
