Elzach (; Low Alemannic German, Low Alemannic: ''Elze'') is a town in the Emmendingen (district), district of Emmendingen, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is situated on the river Elz (Rhine), Elz, 26 km northeast of Freiburg. Geography The town of Elzach is located at the eastern border of the Emmendingen (district), district of Emmendingen and borders on the district of the Ortenaukreis and the Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis. Topographically is the area characterised by the river valley of the Elz (Rhine), Elz and the local hill called Rohrhardsberg. Also Elzach belongs to the Breisgau area and is located at the edge of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park. Elz (Rhine)
The Elz is a river in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, a right tributary of the Rhine. It rises in the Black Forest, near the source of the Breg. The Elz flows through Elzach, Waldkirch and Emmendingen before reaching the Rhine near Lahr. Its length is approx. . The lower reaches of the Elz are by-passed by the Leopold Canal, a flood relief canal. Course The Elz rises north of Furtwangen in the area of the Brend and the Rohrhardsberg mountains (between the Furtwänglehof and the Kolmenhof) not far from the source of the Breg which is hydrographically the source of the Danube. In its upper reaches the Elz flows in a northerly direction, initially through a high valley with pasture land, bog and ice age glacial landforms. Emmendingen (district)
Emmendingen (German: ''Landkreis Emmendingen'') is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the west of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Neighbouring districts are (from north clockwise) Ortenaukreis, Schwarzwald-Baar, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and the district-free city Freiburg. To the west it borders the French ''département'' Bas-Rhin. History The district dates back to the ''Bezirksamt Emmendingen'', which was created in 1803 when the area became part of Baden. After several additions it was converted into the district Emmendingen in 1936, when it was merged with the ''Amt Waldkirch''. In the communal reform of 1973 the district wasn't changed - at first it was planned to merge it with the district Lahr, but that was merged into the Ortenaukreis instead. Rohrhardsberg
The Rohrhardsberg is a mountain in the Central Black Forest in southern Germany. At 1,152.1 metres (3,780 ft) above sea level, it is the northernmost summit of the elongated, north-south oriented Farnberg Plateau that has several high points over 1,150 metres. The mountain is situated near Elzach in the state of Baden-Württemberg. Location The Farnberg Plateau, which includes the Rohrhardsberg lies in the triangle between the valleys of the Elz, Oberprechtal and Simonswäldertal. The Southern Black Forest Nature Park (german: Naturpark Südschwarzwald) is located in Baden-Württemberg in Germany and covers an area of 394,000 hectares.
