Roger North, 2nd Baron North
Roger North, 2nd Baron North (1530 – 3 December 1600) was an English Peerage, peer and politician at the court of Elizabeth I. He was the son of Edward North, 1st Baron North, for whom the title Baron North had been created. After representing Cambridgeshire (UK Parliament constituency), Cambridgeshire in several parliaments (1555, 1559 and 1563), North acceded to his title in 1564. He may have succeeded his father as Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire as well, and was Custos Rotulorum of Cambridgeshire before 1573. He was appointed Treasurer of the Household in 1596 after the death of Francis Knollys (the elder), Sir Francis Knollys. North played card games called "Forty-fives, maw" and Primero with Elizabeth on 6 August 1576. The queen came to his house at Kirtling Tower, Kirtling for three days on 1 September 1578. Roger North (governor)
Roger North (1585? – 1652?) was an English colonial projector. Life Born about 1585, he was grandson of Roger North, 2nd Baron North, and third child of Sir John North. Raleigh expedition North was one of the captains who sailed with Sir Walter Raleigh in his final voyage to Guiana in 1617; he was connected through his sister-in-law Frances, lady North with the originator of the expedition, Captain Lawrence Kemys. North's ensign, John Howard, died on 6 October after leaving the island of Bravo, as fever ravaged the fleet. On 17 November 1617 the adventurers came in sight of the coast of Guiana, and cast anchor off Cayenne. Raleigh, who was disabled by fever, ordered five small ships to sail into the River Orinoco, led by Kemys and carrying five companies of fifty. Of one company North was in command. Roger North (biographer)
Roger North, KC (3 September 16531 March 1734) was an English lawyer, biographer, and amateur musician. Life North was the sixth son of Dudley North, 4th Baron North and his wife Anne Montagu and was the brother of Francis North and Dudley North. He was born in Tostock, Suffolk. He attended Bury St Edmunds Grammar School and then Thetford Grammar School from 1663, followed by Jesus College, Cambridge and the Middle Temple. He was called to the bar in 1674, and was Steward of the Diocese of Canterbury in 1678. He became King's Counsel and a Bencher of Middle Temple in 1682. North developed a good practice at the bar, helped by his elder brother Francis who became Lord Chancellor. Henry Hyde, 2nd Earl of Clarendon called him "one of only two honest lawyers I ever knew". During the Popish Plot, while Francis succumbed to the prevailing anti-Catholic hysteria, Roger remained detached and sceptical. Roger North (died 1651)
Sir Roger North (18 February 1577 – 17 June 1651) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons of England, House of Commons at various times between 1621 and 1648. North was the son of Sir Henry North of Mildenhall, Suffolk, Mildenhall, Suffolk and his wife, Mary Knevit, daughter of Richard Knevit. He was Knight Bachelor, knighted on 16 June 1618. In 1621, North was elected Member of Parliament for Eye (UK Parliament constituency), Eye. He was then elected MP for Suffolk (UK Parliament constituency), Suffolk in 1624. In 1625, he was re-elected for Eye and retained the seat in the 1626 and 1628 elections. He sat until 1629 when King Charles decided to rule without parliament for eleven years. In April 1640, North was re-elected MP for Eye in the Short Parliament. He was re-elected MP for Eye in the Long Parliament in November 1640 and sat until 1648 when he was excluded under Pride's Purge. North died at the age of 74 on 17 June 1651.
