Roger North (governor)
Roger North (1585? – 1652?) was an English colonial projector. Life Born about 1585, he was grandson of Roger North, 2nd Baron North, and third child of Sir John North. Raleigh expedition North was one of the captains who sailed with Sir Walter Raleigh in his final voyage to Guiana in 1617; he was connected through his sister-in-law Frances, lady North with the originator of the expedition, Captain Lawrence Kemys. North's ensign, John Howard, died on 6 October after leaving the island of Bravo, as fever ravaged the fleet. On 17 November 1617 the adventurers came in sight of the coast of Guiana, and cast anchor off Cayenne. Raleigh, who was disabled by fever, ordered five small ships to sail into the River Orinoco, led by Kemys and carrying five companies of fifty. Of one company North was in command. Roger North, 2nd Baron North
Roger North, 2nd Baron North (1530 – 3 December 1600) was an English Peerage, peer and politician at the court of Elizabeth I. He was the son of Edward North, 1st Baron North, for whom the title Baron North had been created. After representing Cambridgeshire (UK Parliament constituency), Cambridgeshire in several parliaments (1555, 1559 and 1563), North acceded to his title in 1564. He may have succeeded his father as Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire as well, and was Custos Rotulorum of Cambridgeshire before 1573. He was appointed Treasurer of the Household in 1596 after the death of Francis Knollys (the elder), Sir Francis Knollys. North played card games called "Forty-fives, maw" and Primero with Elizabeth on 6 August 1576. The queen came to his house at Kirtling Tower, Kirtling for three days on 1 September 1578. Ludovic Stewart, 2nd Duke Of Lennox
Ludovic Stewart, 2nd Duke of Lennox and 1st Duke of Richmond (29 September 157416 February 1624), lord of the manor, lord of the Manor of Cobham, Kent, was a Scotland, Scottish nobleman who through their paternal lines was a second cousin of King James VI and I, James VI of Scotland and I of England. He was involved in the Plantation of Ulster in Ireland and the colonization of Maine in New England. Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Richmond's Island and Cape Richmond as well as Richmond, Maine (formerly Fort Richmond), are named after him. His magnificent monument with effigies survives in Westminster Abbey. Woodhall Farm is a neighbourhood on the northern side of Hemel Hempstead in the county of Hertfordshire. It was built on the former Brocks Fireworks site. Its location on the edge of Hemel Hempstead means it has open fields to its north and east with the landscaped High Wood forming an integral green barrier and recreational space. Development Situated on the northern edge of Hemel Hempstead towards Redbourn, Woodhall Farm was built in the mid to late 1970s on the former Brock's Fireworks site with a mix of private and housing association stock. The builder was Fairview Estates and it has property ranging from 4 bedroom detached houses down to one bedroom low -rise flats. The area has a shopping centre with a Sainsbury's Supermarket, Newsagents, Fish & Chip shop and Dry Cleaners and a Chemist shop.
