Roger Bourbonnais
Roger Maurice Bourbonnais (born October 26, 1942) is a retired ice hockey player. Career Bourbonnais played junior hockey for the Edmonton Oil Kings from 1960 to 1963. In his final year with the Oil Kings, he served as the team captain and led them to their first-ever Memorial Cup Championships. After playing junior hockey, he was recruited by Father David Bauer to attend the University of British Columbia. While there, Bauer coached them to compete in the Winter Olympics as part of the Canadian National Team. Bourbonnais competed in the 1964 and 1968 Winter Olympics and skated for Canada at the 1965, 1966 and 1967 IIHF World Championships. He won two bronze medals with the team under coach Bauer. His success on the international level drew attention from the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League, however, he turned them down to pursue his law degree. IIHF Hall Of Fame Inductees
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments. Rules of play for IIHF events differ from hockey in North America and the rules of the National Hockey League (NHL). Franco-Albertans (french: Franco-Albertains) are francophone residents of the Canadian province of Alberta. Franco-Albertans may also refer to residents of Alberta with French Canadian ancestry, although publications from the government of Alberta use the term ''Franco-Albertan'' to refer to its francophone residents. Edmonton Oil Kings (WCHL) Players
The Edmonton Oil Kings are a Junior ice hockey, major junior ice hockey team based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, that play in the Western Hockey League (WHL). As of July 2008, they are owned by Daryl Katz's Oilers Entertainment Group, which also owns the Edmonton Oilers. The 2007–08 WHL season, 2007–08 season was the newest incarnation of the Oil Kings' inaugural season in the WHL. Some NHL alumni include Tomáš Vincour, Tomas Vincour, Mark Pysyk, Curtis Lazar, Keegan Lowe, Griffin Reinhart, Henrik Samuelsson, Laurent Brossoit, Tristan Jarry and David Musil. Edmonton Flyers (WHL) Players
The Edmonton Flyers are a defunct ice hockey team that was based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The team existed from 1940 until 1963. The Flyers played in the Edmonton Gardens. The Flyers were nominated by W. G. Hardy to represent Canada at the 1947 Ice Hockey World Championships, but the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association ultimately did not to send a team due to funding issues. The Flyers won the 1948 Allan Cup as Canadian senior hockey champions. The Flyers later won three Lester Patrick Cups as Western Hockey League champions. The Flyers were a minor league affiliate of the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings during their tenure in the WHL.
