Le Neubourg is a commune in Eure, Normandy, France. The composer and organist Roger Boucher (1885–1918) was born in Le Neubourg. History In the 11th century the manor of Le Neubourg was a subsidiary holding of Roger de Beaumont (d.1094), a principal adviser to William the Conqueror, and feudal lord of Beaumont-le-Roger situated 12 km to the SW. Maîtres contemporains de l'orgue is an eight-volume collection edited by abbot Joseph Joubert published by Éditions Maurice Senart; the first three volumes appeared in 1912. The first six volumes are "for organ or harmonium", so the pieces in them do not include a mandatory pedal part. Preface ''L'Anthologie des Maîtres Contemporains de l'Orgue'' offers church musicians and all lovers of good music a careful selection of pieces that have not so far been published elsewhere. These pieces represent all styles and schools of composition, and have been drawn from all countries. Joseph Joubert (abbot)
Joseph Joubert (15 March 1878 – 15 November 1963) was a French Catholic priest and organist. Biography Born in Coëx, Joubert was ordained a priest on 22 February 1902. He was appointed secretary and vice-chancellor of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Luçon in 1919. He also held the position of chaplain of the Carmel from July 1904 until his death. He studied music at the Schola Cantorum de Paris from 1903 to 1904. Upon the sudden death of his predecessor, he had to abandon his studies in order to hold the position of titular organist of the Cavaillé-Coll organ of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Luçon from 1904 to 1935, then from 1940 to 1946. Joubert died in Luçon in 1963. Publications He had the idea of soliciting composers to ask them for unpublished pieces for organ or harmonium (590) which he collected and had published in 8 volumes (1912 and 1914) at Éditions Maurice Senart in Paris. Louis Vierne
Louis Victor Jules Vierne (8 October 1870 – 2 June 1937) was a French organist and composer. As the organist of Notre-Dame de Paris from 1900 until his death, he focused on organ music, including six organ symphonies and a '' Messe solennelle'' for choir and two organs. He toured Europe and the United States as a concert organist. His students included Nadia Boulanger and Maurice Duruflé. Life Louis Vierne was born in Poitiers on 8 October 1870, the son of Henri-Alfred Vierne (1828–1886), a teacher, who became a journalist. He was editor-in-chief of the ''Journal de la Vienne'' in Poitiers, where he met his future wife, Marie-Joséphine Gervaz. The couple had four children. Louis was born nearly blind due to congenital cataracts. His unusual gift for music was discovered early.
