Roger Barton (footballer)
David Roger Barton (25 September 1946 – 4 November 2013) was an English footballer who made 83 appearances in the Football League playing for Lincoln City and Barnsley. He represented England at under-18 level. He began his professional football career with Wolverhampton Wanderers, but left the club before appearing in the league, and after leaving Barnsley he played in the Southern League for Worcester City Worcester City Football Club is an English football club based in Worcester, Worcestershire. Jump, South Yorkshire
Jump is a village in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. It is north-east of Hoyland, separated from it by the Jump Valley, through which a stream runs. According to local legend, Jump village was named by the local coal miners having to 'jump' over the stream to go to work. History Flints from the late Mesolithic have been found in the Roebuck Hill area, along with Neolithic and Bronze Age material. No evidence of permanent settlement has been found from these periods. Pre-Roman Iron Age settlement of the area is known of because of post-holes, indicating the presence of a late-Iron Age roundhouse. A locally made beehive quern is one of many artefacts found at the site. Later Post-Medieval use of the site shows the construction of a kiln, possibly used to produce iron. The Southern League is a men's football competition featuring semi-professional clubs from the South and Midlands of England. Together with the Isthmian League and the Northern Premier League it forms levels seven and eight of the English football league system. The structure of the Southern League has changed several times since its formation in 1894, and currently there are 84 clubs which are divided into four divisions. The Central and South Divisions are at step 3 of the National League System (NLS), and are feeder divisions, mainly to the National League South but also to the National League North. The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world.
