Roffey Cricket Club
Roffey Cricket Club is a cricket club based in the Roffey suburb of the town of Horsham in West Sussex, England. Founded in 1904, the club's first XI plays in the Premier League of the Sussex Cricket League which is an accredited ECB Premier League, the highest level of recreational club cricket in England and Wales. The First XI have won the Sussex Premier League five times out of the last six seasons (2014, 2015, 2016, 2018 & 2019) and were second in 2017. They were unbeaten in the league in the 2019 season. In addition, the Second XI were Division III champions and have been promoted to Division II for the 2020 season, the highest Division available to them and the Third XI were Division VIII champions and have been promoted to Division VII for the 2020 season. Sussex Cricket League
The Sussex Cricket League, founded in 1971, is the top level of competition for recreational club cricket in Sussex, England, and since 1999 the Premier Division has been a designated ECB Premier League. The League Headquarters is based in Hove, East Sussex. Following a review of club cricket in Sussex the league now has thirty five divisions, and no longer are there separate competitions for 2nd and lower XIs. West Sussex is a county in South East England on the English Channel coast. ECB Premier Leagues
The ECB Premier Leagues are a series of regional cricket leagues organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that form the top tier of club cricket in England and Wales. The ECB published "Raising the Standard" in 1997, the ECB Management Board Blueprint for the Future Playing Structure of cricket. This introduced the concept of ECB Premier Leagues, designed to raise the playing standard of the top tier of club cricket and to bridge the gap between recreational cricket and the First Class game. A national network of Premier Leagues was established, with funding from the ECB. The Leagues have to meet the published ECB assessment criteria and they receive accreditation on an annual basis. Club cricket is a mainly amateur, but still formal, form of the sport of cricket, usually involving teams playing in competitions at weekends or in the evening. There is a great deal of variation in game format although the Laws of Cricket are observed. Horsham Cricket Club
Horsham Cricket Club is one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world and represents the Sussex market town of Horsham in the Sussex Cricket League, along with Roffey Cricket Club. Although cricket was played in Horsham before 1768, the first recorded game of a town side was on 8 August 1771, and Horsham Cricket Club was created soon after 1806. The club has played various locations over the years, before settling at their present ground in 1851. Cricketfield Road Horsham is on 'Cricketfield Road' and the Ground is known as the Cricketfield Road Ground. This ground is the only ground to host both the MCC Spirit of Cricket U13 Regional Finals and the Portman Cup U15 Regional Finals. The two ends are called the Town End and the Railway End. Cricket In West Sussex
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket.
