Rodley (car)
The Rodley was a British microcar designed by Henry Brown and built by the Rodley Automobile Company in Rodley, West Yorkshire between 1954 and 1956. Henry Brown also designed the Scootacar microcar (built between 1957 and 1964). The body was of steel construction, rather than the more usual glass fibre, and was mounted on a steel chassis. The engine was a rear-mounted, direct driven impeller air-cooled 750 cc twin-cylinder unit made by JAP driving the rear wheels through a three-speed gearbox and chain to the axle which had a friction differential. The suspension was by independent coil springs at the front and underslung semi elliptic at the rear. Steering was by a chain system. Although the car was advertised as a four-seater and fitted with four seats, the rear ones, as might be expected in a microcar, were rather small and cramped. Rodley, West Yorkshire
Rodley is a suburb in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough, West Yorkshire, England. The village is situated within the Calverley and Farsley ward of Leeds Metropolitan Council, just inside the Leeds Outer Ring Road, north-west from Leeds city centre and north-east from Bradford. The hamlet of Bagley borders Rodley. History Rodley village is not recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book, although several nearby places such as Horsforth, Calverley, Farsley and Bramley are. The earliest use of the name Rodley appears to be "Rodele", who was listed as a tenant in the Domesday Book, and "Redlega" who was recorded in Yorkshire in 1157. In the 19th century Rodley was part of the parish of Calverley. Part of the north-western end of the suburb is in what was, before the Local Government Act 1972, the Municipal Borough of Pudsey; a sign, next to The Owl public house on Rodley Lane, still notes this heritage in 2020. Rodley, Gloucestershire
Rodley is a settlement in Westbury-on-Severn parish, Forest of Dean District, Gloucestershire, England. It lies to the south east of Westbury-on-Severn, surrounded on three sides by a loop of the River Severn. Rodley has a tin church, known as Rodley Mission Church. This is a prefabricated church constructed in 1908 of galvanised metal over a wooden interior. It is used for occasional services. James Rodley
James Rodley (born 20 March 1985, in Auckland) is a rugby union player. Rugby career Rodley started playing rugby at the age of five for the East Coast Bays rugby club. The move to the Marist Rugby club in 2006 saw his rugby career take off. Rodley was selected as the second halfback/scrumhalf for the North Harbour NPC Air New Zealand Cup team in 2006, but it wasn't long before he was the starting halfback. The North Harbour Rugby Union NPC team won the Ranfurly Shield in 2006 for the first time in North Harbours history against Canterbury. Rodley was named Rookie of the year 2006. In early 2007, Rodley participated in a competition with all the Marist clubs from around New Zealand. The North Shore Marist team Rodley plays for won the competition, and rodley was named Marists most valuable player. Nigel Rodley
Sir Nigel Simon Rodley KBE (born Rosenfeld; 1 December 1941 – 25 January 2017) was an international lawyer and professor. Personal life Rodley was born in the West Riding of Yorkshire on 1 December 1941 to Hans Israel Rosenfeld and Rachel (née Kantorowitz). His parents later changed their name to Rodley. His father, who served in the British Army under the name John Peter Rodley, was killed in action in the Netherlands in September 1944. He was educated at Clifton College, where he was a member of Polack's, the Jewish boarding house. He was of Jewish descent. As well as his native English, he spoke French, German, and Spanish. Rodley married Lynette Bates in Leeds in 1967. He died aged 75 on 25 January 2017.
