The Rodgau Railway (''Rodgaubahn'') is a railway line that runs from Offenbach Central Station (''Offenbach am Main Hauptbahnhof'') via Rodgau to Rödermark-Ober-Roden in the German state of Hesse. The name ''Rodgaubahn'' is derived from the medieval name of ''Rodgau'', part of the former ''Maingau'' (Main district), which the line passes through for its whole length. History Since about 1870 there were serious proposals from local interest groups for the building of a railway to open up the Rodgau, but at first the government of the Grand Duchy of Hesse did not respond to them. An ''Eisenbahncomitée'' (railway committee) was formed after the first, unsuccessful initiative in 1877. But this took four years to get a response from Darmstadt, the capital of the Duchy, during which the committee carried out preparatory work for an Offenbach–Reinheim railway project at its own expense. Rodgau
Rodgau is a town in the Offenbach district in the ''Regierungsbezirk'' of Darmstadt in Hesse, Germany. It lies southeast of Frankfurt am Main in the Frankfurt Rhine Main Region and has the greatest population of any municipality in the Offenbach district. It came into being in 1979 when the greater community of Rodgau was raised to town, after having been formed through a merger of five formerly self-administering communities in the framework of municipal reform in Hesse in 1977. The current constituent communities’ history reaches back to the 8th century. Obertshausen () is a town in the Offenbach district in the ''Regierungsbezirk'' of Darmstadt in the state of Hesse, Germany. It has around 24,000 inhabitants. Geography Location Obertshausen is one of 13 towns and municipalities in the Offenbach district. Offenbach-Bieber–Dietzenbach Railway
The Offenbach-Bieber–Dietzenbach railway branches in Offenbach-Bieber station from the Rodgau Railway (german: Rodgaubahn) and runs via Heusenstamm to Dietzenbach in the German state of Hesse. The line is integrated into the Frankfurt S-Bahn network. It is served by line S 2. History The Offenbach-Bieber–Dietzenbach line was opened on 1 December 1898, following the opening of the Rodgau Railway in 1896. It was the result of continuing efforts at the local level since about 1870 to open up the area south of Offenbach am Main with a railway, but which was only adopted by the Grand Duchy of Hesse very slowly. So it took until 1888 for the government to finally give its approval and it took another ten years until the first train ran. Odenwald Railway (Hesse)
The Odenwald Railway (german: Odenwaldbahn) is a mainly single-tracked main line from Darmstadt and Hanau to Eberbach on the River Neckar, which crosses the Odenwald mountains in the German states of Hesse and Baden-Württemberg. Rödermark
Rödermark is a town in the Offenbach (district), Offenbach district in the ''Regierungsbezirk'' of Darmstadt (region), Darmstadt in Hesse, Germany, southeast of Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main and northeast of Darmstadt. Geography Location The town lies mostly in the ''Messeler Hügelland'', a part of the Lower Main Plain with gentle hills. Offenbach-Bieber Station
Offenbach-Bieber is located on the Rodgau Railway (german: Rodgaubahn) in the Bieber district of the city of Offenbach am Main in the German state of Hesse. The Offenbach-Bieber–Dietzenbach railway also starts here. Today the station is served by lines S1 and S2 of the Rhine-Main S-Bahn. The station is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. The Dreieich Railway (''Dreieichbahn'') is a single-track, non-electrified branch line in the Frankfurt Rhine-Main area in the German state of Hesse.
