Rodeo Drive
Rodeo Drive () is a street in Beverly Hills, California, with its southern segment in the City of Los Angeles, known as one of the most expensive streets in the world. Its southern terminus is at Beverwil Drive, and its northern terminus is at its intersection with Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills. The name is most commonly used metonymically to refer to the three-block stretch of the street between Wilshire Boulevard and Little Santa Monica Boulevard. Pronunciation The word ''rodeo'' as a term referring to the cowboy sports can be pronounced with the stress on either the first () or second () syllable; the latter is its Spanish pronunciation. For the street in Beverly Hills, however, only the latter pronunciation is used; the former pronunciation is used to refer to Rodeo Road in Los Angeles, which has since been renamed Obama Boulevard. Aldo Gucci (26 May 1905 – 19 January 1990) was an Italian personality and the chairman of Gucci from 1953 to 1986. He was the eldest biological son of Guccio Gucci, who founded the company bearing the family name in 1921. Giorgio Beverly Hills was a luxury goods store established in 1961. It was the first luxury boutique to be founded on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California. History Giorgio Beverly Hills was founded by Fred Hayman and George Grant. The name was derived from Grant's first name. Giorgio Beverly Hills opened in 1961 at 273 Rodeo Drive at the junction with Dayton Way, which was then a very ordinary street. Gucci, Tiffany & Co., Tiffany and others established Rodeo Drive stores in the mid-1970s. Hayman recognised the potential of the site, as it was close to The Beverly Hilton hotel, where he had been working. Fred Jules Pollag (May 29, 1925 – April 14, 2016), known professionally as Fred Hayman, was a Swiss-born American fashion retailer and entrepreneur, founder of Giorgio Beverly Hills in 1961 in Beverly Hills, California. He was also known as "Mr. Beverly Hills" and "Mr. Rodeo Drive". Early life Hayman was born to a Jewish family in St. Gallen, Switzerland in 1925, the son of Richard Pollag and Irma Levy. His sister Yvette is four years older than him. After his father died, his mother married Julius Haymann (two n's), who already had a son, Eugene. His family emigrated to New York during World War II, where Hayman found work as an apprentice chef at the Waldorf-Astoria. The Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, commonly known as the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, is a historic luxury hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Located at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Rodeo Drive, it was completed in 1928. It has been used as a shooting location for films and television series. History The Beverly-Wilshire Apartment Hotel opened on January 1, 1928. It was constructed by real estate developer Walter G. McCarty on the site of the former Beverly Hills Speedway. Marvin Kratter (born November 9, 1915, in Brooklyn, died October 24, 1999, in Encinitas, California) was a New York-based real estate developer who was the head of the Kratter Corporation, National Equities, Countrywide Realty, Knickerbocker Brewery, Rom-American Pharmaceuticals, and the Boston Celtics. Anderton Court Shops
The Anderton Court Shops building was completed in 1952, as Frank Lloyd Wright's final Los Angeles building. It consisted of a small three-story group of shops on fashionable Rodeo Drive in the downtown section of Beverly Hills, California. The building was restored and renovated in 2024 as a flagship store for Givenchy.
