Rodas () is a municipality and town in the Cienfuegos Province of Cuba. It was founded in 1859 under the name of ''Lechuzo''. In 1879 it was renamed Rodas in honour of capitán general ''Caballero de Rodas''. Geography The municipality is divided into the barrios and villages of Cabecera (the town proper), Ariza, Cartagena, Congojas, Jabacoa, La Unión, Limones, Medidas, Santiago, Soledad and Turquino. Until the 1977 administrative reform, the village of Arriete-Ciego Montero, currently in the municipality of Palmira, was part of it. It is bordered by the municipalities of Aguada de Pasajeros, Abreus, Cienfuegos, Palmira, Lajas, Santo Domingo (in Villa Clara Province) and Los Arabos (in Matanzas Province). Arriete-Ciego Montero
Arriete-Ciego Montero, also known as ''Arriete'' or ''Ciego Montero'', is a Cuban village, spa town, and ''consejo popular'' ("people's council", i.e. hamlet) of the municipality of Palmira, in Cienfuegos Province. In 2011 it had a population of 4,816. History The foundation of the village, originally named only Ciego Montero, started in 1835, with the first perimeter demarcation around the local thermal waters. In 1862 was proposed to rename it "Principe Alfonso" after Alfonso XII of Spain, born 5 years before. The eastern quarter of Arriete, originally named Arrieta, was a detached village, united to Ciego Montero in 1977, after the Cuban administrative reform. Following that reform, the new united village of Arriete-Ciego Montero passed from the municipal administration of Rodas to the current one of Palmira. Cienfuegos Province
Cienfuegos () is one of the provinces of Cuba. The capital city of the province is also called Cienfuegos and was founded by French settlers in 1819. Overview Until 2011 Cienfuegos was the smallest province in Cuba (excluding the city of Havana and the Isla de la Juventud) with an economy almost entirely dedicated to the growing and processing of sugar. Palmira is a municipality and town in the Cienfuegos Province of Cuba. The town proper has a population of circa 14,000, the whole municipality 33,153. History It was founded in 1879 under the name ''Las Casas''. The name was changed to Palmira and the community was incorporated in 1940. Geography Located in the middle of its province, Palmira is 12 km far from Cienfuegos, 16 from Cruces, and 52 from Santa Clara. Cienfuegos
Cienfuegos (), capital of Cienfuegos Province, is a city on the southern coast of Cuba. It is located about from Havana and has a population of 150,000. Since the late 1960s, Cienfuegos has become one of Cuba's main industrial centers, especially in the energy and sugar sectors. The city is dubbed ''La Perla del Sur'' (Pearl of the South). Although ''Cienfuegos'' literally translates to "one hundred fires" (''cien'', "one hundred"; ''fuegos'', "fires"), the city takes its name from the surname of José Cienfuegos, Captain General of Cuba (1816–19).
