Arriete-Ciego Montero
Arriete-Ciego Montero, also known as ''Arriete'' or ''Ciego Montero'', is a Cuban village, spa town, and ''consejo popular'' ("people's council", i.e. hamlet) of the municipality of Palmira, in Cienfuegos Province. In 2011 it had a population of 4,816. History The foundation of the village, originally named only Ciego Montero, started in 1835, with the first perimeter demarcation around the local thermal waters. In 1862 was proposed to rename it "Principe Alfonso" after Alfonso XII of Spain, born 5 years before. The eastern quarter of Arriete, originally named Arrieta, was a detached village, united to Ciego Montero in 1977, after the Cuban administrative reform. Following that reform, the new united village of Arriete-Ciego Montero passed from the municipal administration of Rodas to the current one of Palmira. ''Natural History'' is a natural history magazine published in the United States. The stated mission of the magazine is to promote public understanding and appreciation of nature and science. Cruces, Cuba
Cruces () is a municipality and town in Cienfuegos Province, Cuba. It is the home of the Mal Tiempo National Park which commemorates a battle in the 1895 War of Independence. History The town was founded in 1852 in a place known as ''Sabana de Ibarra''. The construction of a railway between Cienfugos Province and Villa Clara began in 1848, causing an economic boom and the expansion of the town. Aguada de Pasajeros () is a municipality and town in the Cienfuegos Province of Cuba. Geography The municipality is divided into the town of Aguada and the villages of Carreño, Real Campiña, Covadonga and Perseverancia. Güines
Güines is a municipality and town in the Mayabeque Province of Cuba. It is located southeast of Havana, next to the Mayabeque River. It is the most populated town, but not the capital, of its province. History The city was founded in 1737 by the Spanish. Prior to the arrival of the Spanish, what is now Güines was part of a region ruled by the Indian chief Habaguanex. One of the earliest mentions of the word Güines is in 1598, when Don Diego de Rivera or Ribera was awarded a land grant for ''Los Güines Corral''. Güines can be considered one of the primary points of Cuba's transformation into a sugar-producing slave society in the wake of the Haitian Revolution. Its demographics radically changed as a result.
