Roda Mistry
Roda Homi Mistry (16 October 1928 – 8 June 2004) was an Indian politician and the founder of the Roda Mistry College of Social Work and Research Center in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, India. She was a Member of Parliament, representing Andhra Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha the upper house of India's Parliament representing the Indian National Congress. She was earlier the Minister for Women and Child Welfare and the Minister of Tourism in the Andhra Pradesh state government. She died on 8 July 2006 in Hyderabad, India. She was Zoroastrian. Her granddaughter, Lylah M. The Rajya Sabha (meaning the "Council of States") is the upper house of the Parliament of India. Andhra Pradesh elects 11 seats and they are indirectly elected by the state legislators of Andhra Pradesh. After formation of Telangana State in 2014, 7 seats were allotted to Telangana, and 5 seats to Andhra Pradesh. Indian Zoroastrians
Zoroastrianism in India has significant history within the country. Zoroastrians have lived in the Indian subcontinent since the Sasanian period. The Zoroastrians also moved to India in successive migrations during the Islamic period. The initial migration following the Muslim conquest of Persia has been canonized as a religious persecution by invading Muslims. Zoroastrianism meanwhile suffered a decline in Iran after the conquests. Subsequent migrations also took place after the attempts by Safavids to convert their subjects to Shiism. Due to persecution of Zoroastrians in other countries and the liberal atmosphere and patronisation of India, today the largest population of Zoroastrians resides in India, where Zoroastrians have been allowed to play a notable role in the Indian economy, entertainment, the armed forces, and the Indian freedom movement during British Raj. Farhang Mehr
Farhang Mehr (11 December 1923 – 3 March 2018) was an Iranian-born American Zoroastrian scholar and politician. Background Mehr was born to a Zoroastrian family in Tehran, Iran. His father, Mehraban Mehr was from the province of Kerman, and at the age of 14 migrated to Tehran for greater economic and social opportunities. He went on to become Chief Accountant in the Majlis Showraye Melli parliament, the predecessor of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Iran). His mother, Paridokht (née Barkhordar), was a granddaughter of Khajeh Barkhordar, a Zoroastrian Yazdi immigrant to Tehran, who served as one of the farm-managers of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar. Farhang was raised as a devout Zoroastrian and a patriotic Iranian.
