Baron Rockley
Baron Rockley, of Lytchett Heath in the County of Dorset, is a title in the peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 11 January 1934 for the Conservative Party (UK), Conservative politician Evelyn Cecil, 1st Baron Rockley, Sir Evelyn Cecil, who had earlier represented Hertfordshire East (UK Parliament constituency), Hertfordshire East, Aston Manor (UK Parliament constituency), Aston Manor and Birmingham Aston (UK Parliament constituency), Birmingham Aston in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, House of Commons. He was the son of Lord Eustace Cecil, fourth son of James Gascoyne-Cecil, 2nd Marquess of Salisbury. The first baron was married to the horticulturist Alicia Amherst. the title is held by their great-grandson, the fourth baron, who succeeded his father in 2011. Alicia Margaret Amherst Cecil Rockley
Alicia Margaret Tyssen Amherst, Baroness Rockley (30 July 1865 – 14 September 1941) was an English horticulturist, botanist, and author of the first scholarly account of English gardening history. Family and personal life Alicia Amherst was born in 1865 in Poole, Dorset, one of seven daughters of William Tyssen-Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst of Hackney, who was later the Conservative Member of Parliament for West Norfolk. Her mother, Margaret Susan Mitford, was an avid gardener and gave Amherst her own plot to care for at the age of ten. Her interest in history was spurred by access to her father's large library. In 1898, she married Evelyn Cecil and gained the second of the names under which she would publish, Mrs Evelyn Cecil. They had three children. Ann Rockley is a content manager. She is the founder and President of The Rockley Group, based in the greater Toronto Area. She regularly presents papers and workshops on subjects involving the efficient creation, management and delivery of content for organizations in North America and Europe. Joseph Rockley Merrick
Joseph Carey Merrick (5 August 1862 – 11 April 1890), often erroneously called John Merrick, was an English man known for having severe deformities. He was first exhibited at a freak show under the stage name "the Elephant Man" and then went to live at the London Hospital after he met Sir Frederick Treves, subsequently becoming well known in London society. Merrick was born in Leicester and began to develop abnormally before the age of five. His mother died when he was eleven and his father soon remarried. Rejected by his father and stepmother, he left home and went to live with his uncle Charles Merrick. In 1879, 17-year-old Merrick entered the Leicester Union Workhouse. In 1884, he contacted a showman named Sam Torr and proposed that Torr should exhibit him. Torr arranged for a group of men to manage Merrick, whom they named "the Elephant Man". Rockley Wilson
Evelyn Rockley Wilson (25 March 1879 – 21 July 1957) was an English amateur first-class cricketer, who played for Cambridge University Cricket Club, Yorkshire, and England. Life Wilson was born in Bolsterstone, Stocksbridge, Yorkshire, and educated at Bilton Grange, Rugby and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated BA in 1901 and MA in 1905. An amateur whose main profession was as a schoolmaster for 43 years at Winchester College (1903–1946), Wilson bowled slow right-arm spinners that move either way off the pitch, and batted well enough to score a century on first-class cricket debut, and another one in the annual Varsity match. He played a little for Yorkshire from 1899, but after leaving Cambridge in 1902, he then played no first-class cricket for the next ten years, preferring, he said, to play three club matches a week rather than two county games. Rockley, Barbados
The parish of Christ Church is one of eleven historic political divisions of Barbados. It has a land area of and is found at the southern end of the island. Christ Church has survived by name as one of the original six parishes created in 1629 by Governor Sir William Tufton. The parish contains the Sir Grantley Adams International Airport as well as the last remaining mangrove swamp in the country, the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary.
