Rocklands Station
Rocklands Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station along the border of the Northern Territory and Queensland in the Barkly Tableland region. The station was established in 1864 by brothers James and George Sutherland. It is situated about north of Camooweal and north east of Alpurrurulam. The property shares a boundary with Adder and Avon Downs Station to the west, Alexandria Station to the north and Austral Downs to the south. The Herbert River flows through the middle of the property. The Barkly Highway runs through the southern end of the property. Rockland The property was acquired by the Paraway Pastoral Company from the Western Grazing Company in 2016 along with Tanbar Station for 130 million. Pastoral Lease
A pastoral lease, sometimes called a pastoral run, is an arrangement used in both Australia and New Zealand where government-owned Crown land is leased out to graziers for the purpose of livestock grazing on rangelands. Australia Pastoral leases exist in both Australian commonwealth law and state jurisdictions. They do not give all the rights that attach to freehold land: there are usually conditions which include a time period and the type of activity permitted. According to Austrade, such leases cover about 44% of mainland Australia (), mostly in arid and semi-arid regions and the tropical savannahs. They usually allow people to use the land for grazing traditional livestock, but more recently have been also used for non-traditional livestock (such as kangaroos or camels), tourism and other activities. Georgina River
The Georgina River is the north-westernmost of the three major rivers of the Channel Country in Central West Queensland, that also flows through a portion of the Northern Territory, in central Australia. Part of the Lake Eyre basin, the Georgina flows in extremely wet years into Lake Eyre. The river is named in honour of Georgina Mildred Kennedy, the daughter of Queensland governor Arthur Kennedy. The river was originally called the Herbert River before being given its current name in 1890 to avoid confusion with the other river in Queensland that bears that name. Stanbroke Pastoral Company
Stanbroke Pastoral Company was a company once owned by AMP Limited that was once one of the largest land owners in Australia. Established in about 1964, by 2003 the company owned 27 cattle stations in Queensland and the Northern Territory controlling some of pastoral country. Properties owned by Stanbroke included; Augustus Downs, Davenport Downs and Tanbar Stations and in Queensland and Banka Banka, Brunchilly, Lake Nash and Helen Springs Station in the Northern Territory. The company was purchased in 2004 by the Nebo Group who paid 417.5 million plus taking on outstanding debts. The sale was by far the largest rural transaction in Australia's history and included a herd of approximately 5000,000 cattle. Brahman (cattle)
The Brahman is an American breed of zebuine-taurine hybrid beef cattle. It was bred in the United States from 1885 from cattle originating in India, imported at various times from the United Kingdom, from India and from Brazil. These were mainly Gir, Guzerá and Nelore stock, with some Indu-Brasil, Krishna Valley and Ongole. The Brahman has a high tolerance of heat, sunlight and humidity, and good resistance to parasites. It has been exported to many countries, particularly in the tropics; in Australia it is the most numerous breed of cattle. It has been used in the creation of numerous taurine-indicine hybrids, some of which – such as the Brangus and Brahmousin – are established as separate breeds. Tanbar Station
Tanbar Station is a pastoral lease that currently operates as a cattle station in Tanbar, Shire of Barcoo, Queensland, Australia. It is located approximately south west of Windorah and north east of Innamincka in the Channel Country of Queensland. The Cooper Creek runs through the property. Established at some time prior to 1884 by John Costello he sold it to Armitage and Gillately shortly after taking it up. In 1886 the property was having a good season with of rain recorded in less than a month and all the waterholes were full John Henderson was running Tanbar in 1888. Mr B. Richardson acquired both Tanbar and Abbottsford Station, which is also on Cooper Creek, in 1903. By 1907 the Christian brothers owned Tanbar. Barkly Highway
The Barkly Highway is a national highway of both Queensland and the Northern Territory in Australia. It is the only sealed road between Queensland and the Northern Territory. Description The highway runs between Cloncurry and the junction with the Stuart Highway north of Tennant Creek, known as the "Threeways". The entire highway is part of the National Highway system: in the Northern Territory it is assigned National Route 66; the Queensland portion is designated as National Route A2. The Northern Territory section has a speed limit of along most of its length. It is the main transport route between Queensland and the Northern Territory, consequently many road trains use it.
