Stanbroke Pastoral Company was a company once owned by AMP Limited that was once one of the largest land owners in Australia. Established in about 1964, by 2003 the company owned 27 cattle stations in Queensland and the Northern Territory controlling some of pastoral country. Properties owned by Stanbroke included; Augustus Downs, Davenport Downs and Tanbar Stations and in Queensland and Banka Banka, Brunchilly, Lake Nash and Helen Springs Station in the Northern Territory. The company was purchased in 2004 by the Nebo Group who paid 417.5 million plus taking on outstanding debts. The sale was by far the largest rural transaction in Australia's history and included a herd of approximately 5000,000 cattle. Augustus Downs Station
Augustus Downs Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in the Gulf Country of outback Queensland. It is situated south of Burketown and south west of Normanton. The Leichhardt River and numerous tributaries flow through the property. Oscar John de Satgé acquired the property in around 1881 along with Carandotta Station after selling Coreena Station for £70,000. In 1901 the property shared a boundary with Lorraine Station, although it was not fenced and cattle from both properties grazed in each other's pastures. Sidney Kidman was a director of the Augustus Downs Pastoral Company until 1935. William Charles Angliss was also a director in the company. Davenport Downs Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in Queensland. Description It is situated about south east of Boulia and north east of Birdsville in the channel country of Queensland. Davenport Downs is the largest cattle station in Queensland and the fourth largest station in Australia after Anna Creek station, Alexandria Station and Clifton Hills Station. Tanbar Station
Tanbar Station is a pastoral lease that currently operates as a cattle station in Tanbar, Shire of Barcoo, Queensland, Australia. It is located approximately south west of Windorah and north east of Innamincka in the Channel Country of Queensland. The Cooper Creek runs through the property. Established at some time prior to 1884 by John Costello he sold it to Armitage and Gillately shortly after taking it up. Banka Banka Station
Banka Banka Station is a location in the Northern Territory of Australia, 100 kilometres north of Tennant Creek along the Stuart Highway. The historic cattle station was the first operational pastoral lease in this region, and a supply camp during World War II, providing meat, eggs, fruits and vegetables. It was occupied and run by the Ward family and is still the site of a mudbrick homestead. Historical significance Ward family Philip and Mary Alice Ward bought Banka Banka Station in 1941. Mary supervised the development of an extensive garden at the station. The homestead was a regular stopping place for travellers. In 1945, Philip Ward was among the first to truck cattle by road. After her husband's death in 1959, Mary ran the station. Due to her efforts, a government school for Aborigines openened at Banka Banka in 1961. She was known as "The Missus of Banka Banka."
