Rock Music In Belarus
Belarusian rock has been developing since the early 1980s. The rock bands include Mroja (later renamed to N.R.M.), Ulis, Daj Darogu!, Kriwi, Lyapis Trubetskoy, Verasy, Open Space, Neuro Dubel, Accent, and Otrazhenie. Metal bands are Asguard and TT-34. Basovišča was a Belarusian rock music festival organized in Gródek, Poland. Other festivals in the field were " Be Free" and " Rock-kola". Censorship There is another side to Belarusian music life which is censorship. Researchers Maya Medich and Lemez Lovas reported in 2006 that "independent music-making in Belarus today is an increasingly difficult and risky enterprise", and that the Belarusian government "puts pressure on ‘unofficial’ musicians - including ‘banning’ from official media and imposing severe restrictions on live performance." Krambambula (band)
Krambambula is a Belarusians, Belarusian band from Minsk, started by Lavon Volski (also the founder of N.R.M.) in 2001. The name of the band is derived from a popular Belarusians, Belarusian tincture, alcoholic tincture of the Krambambula (drink), same name. The band performs humorous and satirical songs, often on an alcoholic theme. Krambambula was banned in Belarus from 2011 to 2017. History Emergence of the idea In the second half of the 90s the artist and poet Mikhail Anempodistov came up with the concept of the album ''Narodny Albom'' ( en, Folk Album). The Belarusian rock stars of that time were supposed to take part in this project. The album was dedicated to Western Belorussia, Western Belarus interwar period. Spasenie
Spasenie is a Belarusian Christian and pop rock band from Brest, which was created in 1989. History The band was formed in August 1989, when around a guitarist, a violinist, a saxophonist (young musicians gave an impromptu concert in Brest city’s central park) spontaneously gathered about 150 people. The boys were just playing music, and suddenly, after the ending of one of songs, they heard applause behind themselves. Touched, the players realized that there is a need to come together in a band. In the same year, they started to rehearse, wrote first songs and, a few months later, were invited to tour across Yakutia. To its 17th anniversary, the band gave a big concert with the orchestra at the Palace of the Republic, which recording was released on the DVD "17 Live" in 2006. Infestum
Infestum is a Belarusian black metal band, formed in 2000 in Minsk. Early works of Infestum had elements of Pagan metal, but the band later changed its style to a black metal sound. Russian label ''More Hate Productions'' considers this band one of the most respectful bands from ex-USSR black metal scene. Biography Early years (2000–2003) Infestum was formed in June 2000 by Grond as drummer and Skald as guitarist. Afterwards, Ion joined Infestum on vocals and Thorngrim joined on bass. With this line-up, Infestum started to create their music. They also played the songs of bands such as Sepultura, Mayhem, Venom, and Bathory at their rehearsals. In the winter of 2000–2001, Infestum recorded their first demo, which was called "Infestum" and contained five songs. Black metal is an extreme metal, extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. Zolki Band is a Belarusian indie rock band from Brest, which was founded in 2013 by former members of the Daj Darohu ( be, Дай Дарогу), Intra muros, and D_tails bands. Weesp (band)
Weesp is an alternative post-metal band from Minsk, Belarus. The band style can be described as a mix of heavy and recognizable riffing, groovy drumming beats, analogue synth sounds, and melodic expressional vocals. Even though band members used to call their style alternative rock, some music journalists describe it as “combination of metal and rock genres”, and some songs they define as nu-metal. Early years Band front man Lex Falco together with Michail (Mike) Zalucky (guitar) formed the band in Minsk when they both were studying in high school in the middle of the 2000s.
