Gyrographa
''Gyrographa'' is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Roccellaceae. The genus was circumscribed in 2014 by Damien Ernst and Anders Tehler, with ''Gyrographa gyrocarpa'' assigned as the type species. This lichen, originally described by Julius von Flotow in 1825, was first placed in the genus ''Opegrapha''. Species in the genus have a crustose thallus lacking a cortex, and a dark brown prothallus. The photobiont partner is trentepholioid. The is thick and carbonised, and the ascospores lack a gelatinous sheath; these characteristics distinguish it from ''Opegrapha'' species. The genus name alludes to the ascomata An ascocarp, or ascoma (), is the fruiting body ( sporocarp) of an ascomycete phylum fungus. It consists of very tightly interwoven hyphae and millions of embedded asci, each of which typically contains four to eight ascospores. Ascocarps are mo ... of the type species. Diromma
''Diromma'' is a monotypic fungal genus in the family Roccellaceae. It contains the single species ''Diromma dirinellum'', a rare crustose lichen that grows as a parasite on the lichen '' Dirina ceratoniae''. It has a distribution restricted to the Mediterranean Basin. Taxonomy This species was first described in 1882 by Finnish lichenologist William Nylander as ''Platygrapha dirinella'', from specimens collected in Sardinia, Italy. It was transferred to '' Schismatomma'' in 1923 by Alexander Zahlbruckner, and considered a member of that genus for nearly a century. The genus ''Diromma'' was circumscribed in 2014 by Anders Tehler and Damien Ernst, following molecular phylogenetic analysis and revision of the Roccellaceae. This analysis showed that the species was a quite distinct lineage in the Roccellaceae. The genus name alludes to both its phylogenetic closeness to '' Dirina'', and its morphological similarity with ''Schismatomma''. Description ''Diromma dirinellum'' has a ... Austroroccella
''Austroroccella'' is a single-species genus in the family Roccellaceae. It contains ''Austroroccella gayana'', a saxicolous (rock-dwelling), fruticose lichen. This lichen produces dark to black s lacking pruina, and it contains roccellic acid as its only lichen product. The genus was circumscribed in 2013 by Anders Tehler, Martin Irestedt, and Damien Ertz based on molecular phylogenetic analysis that showed that the species belongs in an isolated clade A clade (), also known as a monophyletic group or natural group, is a group of organisms that are monophyletic – that is, composed of a common ancestor and all its lineal descendants – on a phylogenetic tree. Crocellina
''Crocellina'' is a monotypic fungal genus in the family Roccellaceae. It contains the single species ''Crocellina cinerea'', a saxicolous (rock-dwelling), crustose lichen that is endemic to Socotra Island in the Indian Ocean. This species was first described in 1882 by Swiss botanist Johannes Müller Argoviensis as ''Dirina cinerea'', and later transferred to genus '' Roccellina'' in 1983. ''Crocellina'' was circumscribed in 2014 by Anders Tehler and Damien Ernst, following molecular phylogenetic Molecular phylogenetics () is the branch of phylogeny that analyzes genetic, hereditary molecular differences, predominantly in DNA sequences, to gain information on an organism's evolutionary relationships. Gyronactis
''Gyronactis'' is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Roccellaceae. It has two species. The genus was circumscribed by Damien Ernst and Anders Tehler in 2014, with '' G. asiatica'' assigned as the type species. This lichen, formerly placed in '' Lecanactis'', is only known from the type locality in Myanmar. The genus name alludes to both its similarity with ''Lecanactis'' and the presence of gyrophoric acid in the thallus. ''Gyronactis'' species have a greyish-green to greyish-brown crustose thallus with and a dark brown prothallus. The is pale and not carbonised (unlike ''Lecanactis''), and the curved conidia measure 6–8 by 2–2.5 μm The micrometre ( international spelling as used by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures; SI symbol: μm) or micrometer (American spelling), also commonly known as a micron, is a unit of length in the International System of Unit .... Dirina
''Dirina'' is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Roccellaceae. All ''Dirina'' species are crustose lichens with a whitish to greyish brown thallus, and live either on rock or on bark–some species can live on both. The partner is a member of the green algal genus '' Trentepohlia''. Most species occur in the Northern Hemisphere, and are generally restricted to coastal habitats, where they may be locally quite common. Erythrin and lecanoric acid are lichen products that usually occur in ''Dirina'' species, along with several other unidentified substances. The genus was circumscribed in 1825 by Elias Magnus Fries. Swedish lichenologist Anders Tehler published a monograph about the genus in 1983. Thirty years later, he and his colleagues revisited ''Dirina'', combining evidence from molecular phylogenetic analysis with morphological and chemical analysis. They accepted 24 species in ''Dirina'', 9 of which were described as new to science. Species * '' Dirina ango ...
