Robinson Department Store is a Thai owned department store. It was established in 1979 and was merged with Central Group in 1995. It is positioned as a mid-market retailer. The company, Robinson Public Company Limited, was registered in the stock exchange of Thailand in 1992 under the ticker . It is listed on the SET50 index. The company and its subsidiaries operate department stores under the Robinson brand and shopping centers under Robinson Lifestyle brand. As of year-end 2014 operated 39 stores in Thailand and two in Vietnam totaling over 450,000 m2 of retail space. A total of 48 branches were scheduled by the end of 2018: 11 branches in Bangkok Metropolitan Region and 37 branches in other provinces, together with 2 branches in Vietnam. Chirathivat Family
The Chirathivat family ( th, จิราธิวัฒน์, ) is a Thai family of Chinese-Thai, Chinese descent. The family was headed by Tiang Chirathivat (; 1905–1968), who migrated to Siam from Hainan and settled in Bangkok in 1927. Tiang's original Chinese surname was Zheng (surname), Cheng. He had 26 children with three wives that resulted in roughly 220 descendants today. Fifty-one are currently involved in the business. His descendants jointly own and manage the Central Group, and are ranked third on Forbes' list of Thailand's fifty richest. The Central Group owns more than 60 department stores and shopping malls. The Mall Group ( th, เดอะมอลล์กรุ๊ป) is one of Thailand's largest mall operators. Central Department Store ( th, สรรพสินค้าเซ็นทรัล; zh, 尚泰; Pinyin: Shàngtài) is a Thai department store chain, owned by Central Group. It has branches in Thailand and Indonesia, and is also a Royal Warrant holder of the Thai Royal Family. History In 1927, 22-year-old Tiang Chirathivat, an immigrant from mainland China, started a store in Bangkok named "Keng Seng Lee" or "baskets for sale", which was the start of an emporium. Later that year, the store moved to Charoen Krung Road, in Bangkok's Si Phraya District. Robinson Lifestyle (previously Robinson Lifestyle Center) is a chain of shopping malls operated by Robinson Co., Ltd. as part of its Robinson Department Store brand under Central Group. The first branch opened in Trang, Thailand on 11 November 2010. The Lifestyle brand concept is for medium-sized malls, with the aim of penetrating secondary provinces where big shopping malls are not present. Crescent Mall is a shopping mall in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, located at Phú Mỹ Hưng planned city in District 7. Central Plaza Surat Thani is a shopping mall in Surat Thani Province, Thailand. Overview On a 62rai (10hectare) plot, the new CentralPlaza Surat Thani will be the largest ever retail project developed by Central Pattana in the Southern Thailand.
