Roberto Skyers
Roberto Skyers Pérez (born 12 November 1991 in Minas, Camagüey) is a Cuban track and field athlete who competes in the sprinting events. He won the gold medal in the 200 metres at the 2011 Pan American Games. His personal bests are 9.98 seconds for the 100 metres and 20.02 seconds for the 200 m. Career At the age of seventeen, he ran a national junior record of 20.24 seconds for the 200 metres that year and also ran a 100 metres best of 10.31 seconds. This represented a significant improvement upon his 2008 best of 21.65 seconds and led to athletics statisticians A. Lennart Julin and Mirko Jalava identifying him as one of the world's most promising sprinters. San Fernando, Cádiz
San Fernando (, "Saint Ferdinand") is a town in the province of Cádiz, Spain. It is home to more than 97,500 inhabitants. The city also uses the name "''La Isla''" (The Island). 2010 Ibero-American Championships In Athletics
The 2010 Ibero-American Championships in Athletics (Spanish: ''XIV Campeonato Iberoamericano de Atletismo'') was an athletics competition which was held at the Estadio Municipal Bahía Sur in San Fernando, Cádiz, Spain from 4–6 June. A total of 44 events were contested, of which 22 by male and 22 by female athletes. A total of 459 athletes from 29 nations participated in the championships. Twelve championships records were set at the fourteenth edition of the competition. Cuba topped the medal table with 15 golds and 25 medals in total. The hosts, Spain, were runners-up with 11 golds and 31 medals overall, while Brazil took third place in the final tally. The event was held to coincide with the city's celebration of the 200th anniversary of the meetings of the Cortes of Cádiz, which paved the way towards the liberation of Spanish America. Camagüey
Camagüey () is a city and municipality in central Cuba and is the nation's third-largest city with more than 321,000 inhabitants. It is the capital of the Camagüey Province. It was founded as Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe in 1514, by Spanish colonists on the northern coast and moved inland in 1528, to the site of a Taino village named Camagüey. It was one of the seven original settlements (''villas'') founded in Cuba by the Spanish. After Henry Morgan burned the city in the 17th century, it was redesigned like a maze so attackers would find it hard to move around inside the city. Bruno Lins Tenório de Barros (born 7 January 1987) is a Brazilian sprinter who specializes in the 200 metres. Biography Barros was born in Maceió and resides in São Bernardo. He represented Brazil at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He competed in the 4x100 metres relay together with José Carlos Moreira, Vicente de Lima and Sandro Viana. In their qualification heat they placed fourth behind Trinidad and Tobago, Japan and the Netherlands. Their time of 39.01 was the seventh out of sixteen participating nations in the first round and they qualified for the final. There they sprinted to a time of 38.24 seconds, the fourth time after the Jamaican, Trinidad and Japanese teams. He also took part in the 200 metres individual, finishing fifth with a time of 21.15 seconds in his first round heat, which was not enough to qualify for the second round. Lansford Spence
Lansford Spence (born 15 December 1982) is a Jamaican sprinter. Together with Sanjay Ayre, Brandon Simpson and Davian Clarke he won a bronze medal in 4 x 400 metres relay at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics. He also competed in the individual contest, but was knocked out in the semi final. In 2006 the relay team won another bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games. He won a Commonwealth Games Silver medal in the 200m in 2010. He was one of five athletes (along with Yohan Blake, Marvin Anderson, Allodin Fothergill and Sheri-Ann Brooks) who failed their doping tests at the 2009 Jamaican National Championships. All five tested positive for banned stimulant methylxanthine. Spence received a three-month doping ban for the infraction. |
