Nowa Ruda ( cs, Nová Ruda, german: Neurode, szl, Nowŏ Ruda) is a town in south-western Poland near the Czech border, lying on the Włodzica river in the central Sudetes mountain range. it had 22,067 inhabitants. The town is located in Kłodzko County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship (in 1975–1998 it was in the former Wałbrzych Voivodeship). The Dark House ( pl, Dom zły) is a 2009 Polish horror/drama film directed by Wojciech Smarzowski. Plot Edward Środoń, an unemployed zootechnician from Mosty with a dark past and a growing drinking problem, tries to start over with a clean slate. He sets out to the Bieszczady Mountains to take up a job there at the local State Agricultural Farm. A twist of events makes him stop over for the night at the house of the Dziabas family. The initial feelings of mutual distrust between the guest and his hosts are softened with consecutive rounds of moonshine. Środoń slowly learns more about the family and its own problems. Leopold "Poldek" Socha (August 28, 1909 – May 12, 1946) was a Polish sewage inspector in the city of Lwów (now Lviv, Ukraine). During World War II, Socha used his knowledge of the city's sewage system to shelter a group of Jews from Nazi persecution and their supporters of different nationalities. In 1978 he was recognized by the State of Israel as Righteous Among the Nations. Biography Socha lived in a poor neighborhood of Lwów, Poland and worked for the municipal sanitation department and secretly as a burglar and thief. In 1943, he began hiding twenty one Jewish refugees in sewage canals in German-occupied Lwów. The Jews had fled through their floorboards to evade German capture.
