Robert Wentworth Little
Robert Wentworth Little (1840 – April 11, 1878) was a clerk and cashier at the Grand Lodge of British Columbia and Yukon of the secretary's office at the United Grand Lodge of England and later secretary of the Royal Masonic School, Royal Institution for Girls. He is credited with the structural design of the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia, S.R.I.A. with the rituals acquired from the store room of Freemasons' Hall, London, Freemasons Hall. He was also a founder of the Ancient and Primitive Rite Rite of Memphis-Misraim, of Misraim in England. United Grand Lodge Of England
The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) is the governing Masonic lodge for the majority of freemasons in England, Wales and the Commonwealth of Nations. Royal Masonic School
The Royal Masonic School for Girls (RMS) is an independent school in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, England, with day and boarding pupils. The school was instituted in 1788, with the aim of caring for the daughters of poor Freemasons. In 1978, the school opened to girls beyond the daughters of freemasons. The school opened in 1789 with fifteen pupils in Somers Town, St Pancras, Middlesex. The school has moved between premises three times, twice within London and in 1934 to Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire, where it still is today. The Royal Masonic School for Girls is a day school for girls 4–18 and a boarding school for girls 7–18. A nursery opened in 2009 for boys and girls aged 2–4. Societas Rosicruciana In Anglia
Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia (Rosicrucian Society of England) is a Rosicrucian esoteric Christian order formed by Robert Wentworth Little in 1865,King 1989, page 28 although some sources acknowledge the date to be 1866-67. Members are confirmed from the ranks of subscribing Master Masons of a Grand Lodge in amity with United Grand Lodge of England. The structure and grade of this order, as A. E. Waite suggests, were derived from the 18th-century German Order of the Golden and Rosy Cross. It later became the same grade system used for the Golden Dawn. Freemasons' Hall, London
Freemasons' Hall in London is the headquarters of the United Grand Lodge of England and the Supreme Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of England, as well as being a meeting place for many Masonic Lodges in the London area. It is located in Great Queen Street between Holborn and Covent Garden and has been a Masonic meeting place since 1775. Parts of the building are open to the public daily, and its preserved classic Art Deco style, together with its regular use as a film and television location, have made it a tourist destination. In 1846, the World Evangelical Alliance was founded here. Original concept In 1775 the premier Grand Lodge purchased a house fronting the street, behind which was a garden and a second house. The Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm is a masonic rite founded in Naples, Italy in September 1881 by the merger of two older rites; the ''Rite of Misraïm'' and the ''Rite of Memphis''. Although founded in 1881, its predecessors have their origins in the 18th century. The system is sometimes known as "Egyptian Freemasonry" due to the invocation of hermetic-derived esoteric symbolism referencing Ancient Egypt in its system of degrees. The rite is noted for its high number of degrees in its system; it has 99 degrees, though some modern French variations practice only 33 degrees. Memphis-Misraïm was governed internationally under a Grand Hierophant from 1881 until 1923. John Fletcher Little
John Fletcher Little (1843 – 9 August 1914) was an Irish physician and Liberal Party politician. Little was born in County Tipperary. He studied in Dublin and took the L.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P. in 1866. He practiced medicine at Woolton. Fletcher was influenced by Silas Weir Mitchell's physical methods of treatment such as massage and visited the United States. Little studied at Cambridge and Charing Cross Hospital. He took the M.B. in 1888 and M.R.C.P. in 1899. He worked as a physician at the London Temperance Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital. He was medical officer for Harrow. With Sir Jonathan Hutchinson he started the London post-graduate scheme which developed into the Medical Graduates' College and Polyclinic. He was a liberal and contested Oxford in 1895. Little was inspired by James Salisbury's diet treatment and reported in 1886 that he had spent six weeks living on a diet of lean meat and hot water which made him lose a stone in weight.
