Robert Warren (artist)
Robert Warren (born 1949) is an American professional artist and art instructor. A student of William Alexander, he helped further develop and adapt Alexander's wet-on-wet style of painting and teaching. Robert Warren has produced more than 200 instructional programs in oil painting including '' The Art of William Alexander & Robert Warren'', on PBS, and '' Robert Warren's Art Loft'', on the Nostalgia Network and on other networks worldwide. His subject matter encompasses several areas of interest such as landscapes, still life, and portraiture. Robert teaches people all over the United States to paint by holding art workshops. William Alexander (television Painter)
William Alexander (born Wilhelm Alexander; 2 April 1915 – 24 January 1997), known as Bill Alexander on his TV show, was a German painter, art instructor, and television host. He was the creator and host of ''The Magic of Oil Painting'' (1974–82) television series that ran on PBS in the United States. He co-wrote ''The Art of Bill Alexander and …'' (1987–95), a series of books on wet-on-wet oil painting, based on different PBS series of the same form. He also taught the television painter Bob Ross his signature "quick" wet-on-wet technique. Early life Wilhelm Alexander was born in East Prussia. His family fled to Berlin during World War I. Career Apprenticed as a carriage maker, Alexander was drafted into the Wehrmacht during World War II. Wet-on-wet
Wet-on-wet, or ''alla prima'' (Italian, meaning ''at first attempt''), direct painting or au premier coup, is a painting technique in which layers of wet paint are applied to previously administered layers of wet paint. Used mostly in oil painting, the technique requires a fast way of working, because the work has to be finished before the first layers have dried. Technique Traditionally, a new layer of oil-based paint is applied to most parts of a painting only after allowing a previous layer to dry completely; this drying process can take from several days to several weeks, depending on the thickness of the paint. In contrast, work performed using ''alla prima'' can be carried out in one or more sessions (depending on the types of paint used and their respective drying times), and it is common for such a work to be finished in only one session or "sitting". Canal Winchester is a city in Fairfield and Franklin counties in the U.S. state of Ohio. The city is one of the suburbs that make up the Columbus metropolitan area. The population was 9,107 at the 2020 census. History Canal Winchester was founded in 1828 by Reuben Dove and John Colman. When construction of the Ohio & Erie Canal came through Dove's wheat field, he wanted to sue the state. The canal workmen instead convinced him that he would be better off laying out a town, because the area was midway between Columbus and Lancaster..
