Robert The Bruce (film)
''Robert the Bruce'' is a 2019 British historical fiction war film directed by Richard Gray concerning the renowned king of the same name. A character-driven ensemble piece, it portrays Robert's relationship with a peasant family as a galvanising influence on his struggle for independence and his ensuing reign. It is a sequel to ''Braveheart'' (1995). Premise Following a series of military losses, with his army in tatters and the success of his rebellion in doubt, Robert retreats from the battlefield. Richard Gray is an Australian film director, writer, and film producer. Biography Raised in Melbourne, Australia, Gray at age 15 began making short films and working in movie theaters in towns including Forest Hill and Chadstone, Victoria, eventually moving up to projectionist. He earned a bachelor's degree in film from The University of Melbourne's Victorian College of the Arts School of Film and Television in 2003. The Declaration of Arbroath ( la, Declaratio Arbroathis; sco, Declaration o Aiberbrothock; gd, Tiomnadh Bhruis) is the name usually given to a letter, dated 6 April 1320 at Arbroath, written by Scottish barons and addressed to Pope John XXII. It constituted King Robert I's response to his excommunication for disobeying the pope's demand in 1317 for a truce in the First War of Scottish Independence. The letter asserted the antiquity of the independence of the Kingdom of Scotland, denouncing English attempts to subjugate it.
