Robert Pentland
Robert Pentland (February 7, 1908 – June 5, 1975) was an American Democratic politician who served in the Missouri General Assembly. He served in the Missouri Senate between 1949 and 1969. Born in Bowhill, Scotland, he was educated in the public schools of Benld, Illinois. On April 25, 1935, Pentland married Irma Seaman of Chicago, Illinois, in St. Louis, Missouri. He has also worked as a coal miner, a grocery clerk, a warehouseman, a representative for the Teamsters Union. Missouri General Assembly
The Missouri General Assembly is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Missouri. The bicameral General Assembly is composed of a 34-member Senate and a 163-member House of Representatives. Members of both houses of the General Assembly are subject to term limits. Senators are limited to two four-year terms and representatives to four two-year terms, a total of 8 years for members of both houses. The General Assembly meets at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City. Qualifications Members of the House of Representatives must be 24 years of age to be elected. The Missouri Senate is the upper chamber of the Missouri General Assembly. It has 34 members, representing districts with an average population of 174,000. Its members serve four-year terms, with half the seats being up for election every two years. The Senate chooses a President Pro Tempore to serve in the absence of the lieutenant governor or when he shall have to exercise the office of governor of Missouri if there is a vacancy in that office due to death, resignation, impeachment, or incapacitation. Benld is a city in Macoupin County, Illinois, Macoupin County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,464 at the 2020 census, down from 1,556 in 2010 United States census, 2010. It is located in the Metro-East portion of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area. ''Benld'' was declared the "most difficult to pronounce" place name in the state of Illinois by ''Reader's Digest''. History Benld was established in 1903. The name derives from founder Benjamin L. Dorsey (d. June 19, 1895), who was responsible for gaining the land on which the town was built and coal mining rights. "Benld" is the combination of Dorsey's first name and his middle and last initial. The 5th Marine Division was a United States Marine Corps ground combat division which was activated on 11 November 1943 (officially activated on 21 January 1944) at Camp Pendleton, California during World War II. The 5th Division saw its first combat action during the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945 where it sustained the highest number of casualties of the three Marine divisions of the V Amphibious Corps (invasion force). The 5th Division was to be part of the planned invasion of the Japan homeland before Japan surrendered.
