Robert MacLaurin
Robert MacLaurin (born 1961) is a Scottish artist. Biography Robert MacLaurin was born in London in June 1961. His early influence was Arnold Balmer his art teacher at Woodleigh School. He studied art at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with distinction. MacLaurin was part of a movement focused around the 369 Gallery in Edinburgh, alongside Fionna Carlisle, June Redfern, Ian Hughes, Caroline McNairn and Gwen Hardie.MacDonald, M., ''Scottish Art'' (Thames and Hudson, 2000), . p. 212. Art UK is a cultural, education charity in the United Kingdom, previously known as the Public Catalogue Foundation. Since 2003, it has digitised more than 220,000 paintings by more than 40,000 artists and is now expanding the digital collection to include UK public sculpture. It was founded for the project, completed between 2003 and 2012, of obtaining sufficient rights to enable the public to see images of all the approximately 210,000 oil paintings in public ownership in the United Kingdom. Caroline McNairn
Caroline McNairn (16 May 1955 – 29 September 2010) was a Scottish figurative painter. Biography Caroline McNairn was born in Selkirk in 1955. Her father (John McNairn) and grandfather (also John McNairn) were also painters. Her father died in 2009 aged 98 and he, too, had studied at Edinburgh College of Art in the 1920s, and then in the early 1930s in Paris under Othon Friesz, a friend and pupil of Cezanne. Caroline was therefore only 2 steps away from the father of modern art and his work had a marked influence on her. She studied art at the University of Edinburgh and then Edinburgh College of Art. Gwen Hardie
Gwen Hardie (born 1962) is a Scottish artist. Biography Gwen Hardie was born in Fife, Scotland in 1962. She spent her childhood in Aberdeenshire and studied art at the Edinburgh College of Art. She lived in London and Berlin before moving to the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York in 2000. Awards and distinctions Hardie has been given residencies at the Bogliasco Foundation, Italy; and at Yaddo, MacDowell, the VCCA and the Bogliasco Foundation in America. In 1990, she became the youngest artist to have a solo show at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh. Castlemaine Art Museum
Castlemaine Art Museum is an Australian art gallery and museum in Castlemaine, Victoria in the Shire of Mount Alexander. It was founded in 1913. It is housed in a 1931 Art Deco neo-classical building constructed for the purpose, heritage-listed by the National Trust. Its collection concentrates on Australian art and the museum houses historical artefacts and displays drawn from the district. Edinburgh International Festival
The Edinburgh International Festival is an annual arts festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, spread over the final three weeks in August. Notable figures from the international world of music (especially classical music) and the performing arts are invited to join the festival. Visual art exhibitions, talks and workshops are also hosted. The first 'International Festival of Music and Drama' took place between 22 August and 11 September 1947. Under the first festival director, the distinguished Austrian-born impresario Rudolf Bing, it had a broadly-based programme, covering orchestral, choral and chamber music, Lieder and song, opera, ballet, drama, film, and Scottish 'piping and dancing' on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle, a structure that was followed in subsequent years.
