Robert Charles Bell (engraver)
Robert Charles Bell (15 September 1806 – 5 September 1872) was a Scottish engraver. Life Bell was born at Edinburgh and at an early age he was articled to John Beugo, the friend of Robert Burns, and while in his studio he also attended the classes at the Trustees' Academy, then under the direction of Sir William Allan. After leaving Beugo he engraved a series of Scottish views and a considerable number of vignette portraits. Bell died in Edinburgh on 5 September 1872. His son, Robert Purves Bell, A.R.S.A., was a Scottish painter of figure subjects. Robert McDicker Bell (16 September 1934 – March 2007) was a Scottish footballer who played as a right back. He played in the Scottish football league system for Falkirk and Ayr United, before spending the majority of his playing career at English Football League club Watford. He later moved into English amateur football, first as a player, and later as a coach and manager. Robert C. "Bunny" Bell (10 April 1911 – 25 December 1988) was a footballer who played for Carlton, Tranmere Rovers and Everton. On Boxing Day 1935, he scored nine times in Tranmere's 13–4 victory over Oldham Athletic, at that time an English record. He might have made it 10, but missed a penalty. Robert William Bell (19 December 1875 – 9 June 1950) was an English international rugby union forward who played club rugby for Cambridge University and Northern. Bell played international rugby for England. Personal history Bell was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1875 to John Robinson Bell. He was educated at Durham School before matriculating to Jesus College, Cambridge in 1896. He received his BA in 1899, and in 1901 he entered the church when he was ordained as a deacon. The following year he was ordained as a priest at Newcastle. Bell took a number of positions in the Anglican church, and was Curate of Benwell (1901–06), Alnwick (1906–07), Whittingham (1907–08), Christchurch (1908–11) and St. Andrews (1911–15). Robert Edward Bell (November 29, 1918 – April 1, 1992) was a Canadian nuclear physicist and principal of McGill University from 1970 to 1979. Biography Born in New Malden, England to Canadian parents, he was raised in Ladner, British Columbia. He received a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and physics in 1939 and a M.A. in physics in 1941 from the University of British Columbia. During World War II he researched VHF, UHF radar and microwave antennas for military purposes at the National Research Council Laboratories in Ottawa. Robert Bell (29 December 1864 – 12 April 1934) was an Irish riveter with Harland and Wolff and amateur geologist, mineral and fossil collector. He was described by Robert Lloyd Praeger as "the working-man naturalist." Early life Robert Bell was born in Ballycreen, County Down in 1864. Sources conflict on his exact date of birth, the possibilities being 20 May, 22 May, though most sources state 29 December. He later moved to Belfast, becoming a hot riveter in Harland and Wolff's shipyards. Geological work Despite the full-time work in the shipyards, as a teenager Bell would spend his spare time studying in the Belfast Museum. Robert Bell (June 3, 1841 – June 18, 1917) was a Canadian geologist, professor and civil servant. He is considered one of Canada’s greatest exploring scientists, having named over 3,000 geographical features. Personal life Robert Bell was born in Toronto, Upper Canada to Presbyterian clergy and amateur geologist, Reverend Andrew Bell and Elizabeth Notman. In 1873, Bell married Agnes Smith. They had a son and three daughters. He spent his retirement at his home in Ottawa and his farm in Rathwell, Manitoba. Bell died after a brief illness at the age of 76 at his farm.
