Robbo (video Game)
''Robbo'' is a puzzle video game designed by Janusz Pelc and published by LK Avalon in 1989 for the Atari 8-bit family. A success on the Polish domestic market, it was later ported to other computer platforms and released in the United States as ''The Adventures of Robbo''. Gameplay The game's design was partly inspired by ''Boulder Dash'', but with the gravity aspect removed. The player controls the titular little robot through a series of planets (56 in the original Atari version), each being a vertically-scrolling maze filled with various objects and obstacles. The goal of each level is to collect a preset number of bolts scattered around (there could be extra bolts on the map, and bolts could also be acquired from random item generators), and then reach a capsule that takes the hero to the next planet. LK Avalon
Laboratorium Komputerowe Avalon (lit. "Computer Laboratory Avalon"), abbreviated LK Avalon, was a Polish software developer and distributor, with product range encompassing video games, educational software and other applications. History The company was founded in mid-1989 by 19 years old schoolmates Tomasz Pazdan and Janusz Pelc, fresh after passing their matura exams, in order to publish Pelc's Atari XL/XE game ''Robbo''. In 1990 Mirosław Liminowicz joined the company, and replaced Pelc as partner in the company when the latter left Avalon the same year. LK Avalon followed the success of ''Robbo'' with other games and applications for the Atari XL/XE. A game demo is a trial version of a video game that is limited to a certain time limit or a point in progress, which leads to the player buying the game if they liked it. A game demo comes in forms such as shareware, demo disc, downloadable software and tech demos. Distribution In the early 1990s, shareware distribution was a popular method for publishing games for smaller developers, including then-fledgling companies such as Apogee Software (now 3D Realms), Epic MegaGames (now Epic Games), and id Software. It gave consumers the chance to try a trial portion of the game, usually restricted to the game's complete first section or "episode", before purchasing the rest of the adventure. Racks of games on single 5" and later 3.5" floppy disks were common in many stores, often very cheaply. Freeware
Freeware is software, most often proprietary, that is distributed at no monetary cost to the end user. Carl Sanford Joslyn "Sandy" Petersen (born September 16, 1955) is an American game designer. He worked at Chaosium, contributing to the development of ''RuneQuest'' and later creating the acclaimed and influential horror role-playing game ''Call of Cthulhu''. ''Electro Man'', originally distributed in Poland under the title ''Electro Body'', is an MS-DOS platform game developed by the Polish company X LanD Computer Games. It was originally released in Poland by xLand in 1992, and later published by Epic MegaGames in the United States in 1993; apart from the changed title, the ''Electro Man'' release contains some changes, such as upgraded graphics. Though initially offered under a shareware license, the game was released as freeware by the developer on June 25, 2006, under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 license. The player controls a cyborg named "Jacek", who must get through all the areas of a space base while destroying enemies. ''Electro Body'' was successful in Poland. Heartlight (video Game)
''Heartlight'' is a puzzle video game originally developed by Janusz Pelc for the Atari 8-bit family in 1990. In 1994, an MS-DOS port (''Heartlight PC'') was published by Epic MegaGames along with two other games by Janusz Pelc in the ''Epic Puzzle Pack''. The shareware version has 20 levels and the full version (''Heartlight Deluxe'') has 70 levels. In 2006, Maciej Miąsik, co-author of the MS-DOS version, released it under the Creative Commons CC BY-SA 2.5 license as freeware. The source code became available too. In 2020, a web browser remake was released with updated graphics. Gameplay The game is set on a 12×20 square grid, with similar game mechanics to ''Boulder Dash'' and ''Supaplex''.
