Rmelan
Rmelan ( ar, رميلان, ku, Rimêlan) is a town in the al-Hasakah Governorate in the northeast of Syria. Administratively part of the al-Yaarubiyah nahiyah of al-Malikiyah District, the town is located 900 km northeast of the capital Damascus, 165 km northeast of the governorate capital al-Hasakah, 70 km east of Qamishli, 30 km southwest of the district centre al-Malikiyah and 0.5 km southwest of the sub-district centre Ma'badah. It has an area of 5 km² and a population of 11,500, based on the 2009 official estimate. The town is famous for being one of the major centres of oil production in Syria. The first oil exploration works in Rmelan started in 1934. However, the town was founded in 1956 along with the discovery of the first oil well in the region, in the area of Karatchok. Ommal Rmelan Sports Club (), previously known as Hay'at Ommal Rmelan, is a Syrian football club based in Rmelan. It was founded in 1959, and reconstructed later on in 1979. Rojava
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), also known as Rojava, is a de facto autonomous region in northeastern Syria. It consists of self-governing sub-regions in the areas of Afrin, Jazira, Euphrates, Raqqa, Tabqa, Manbij and Deir Ez-Zor. The region gained its de facto autonomy in 2012 in the context of the ongoing Rojava conflict and the wider Syrian Civil War, in which its official military force, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has taken part. Abu Hajar Airport
The Abu Hajar Airport ( ar, مطار أبو حجر) is an airfield near the town of Rmelan in the al-Hasakah Governorate of northeast Syria. Before 2010, it was used as an agricultural transport airport and was subsequently abandoned until the end of 2015. History In November and December 2015, the United States Air Force reportedly began reconstruction work of the airstrip with the support of the People's Protection Units in the area, landing two helicopters in the field. The runway was reportedly planned to be expanded to wide to be prepared for use by military aircraft. The airport is planned to be used by the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve to provide air support for the Syrian Democratic Forces. Syria is a unitary state, but for administrative purposes, it is divided into fourteen governorates, also called provinces or counties in English (Arabic ''muḥāfaẓāt'', singular '' muḥāfaẓah'').
