Ričardas Mikutavičius
Ričardas Mikutavičius (February 26, 1935 in Kaunas – July 1, 1998) was a Lithuanian priest, Doctor of Theology, poet, and one of the most famous collectors of art in Lithuania. Biography He attended the 15th Kaunas elementary school and the 4th boy's gymnasium. In 1953 he entered Kaunas Priest Seminary and he became a priest in 1958. He had been a member of the Union of Lithuanian writers since 1992. He was awarded the 3rd class Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas in 1993. He was killed on June 30, 1998 during a robbery of his painting collection. His body was tossed into the Nemunas River and he was later buried in Petrašiūnai cemetery. Three defendants subsequently confessed to the murder and pointed to a fourth defendant as the mastermind of the crime. On November 29, 2001 the monument for his honour was built. Kaunas
Kaunas (; ; also see other names) is the second-largest city in Lithuania after Vilnius and an important centre of Lithuanian economic, academic, and cultural life. Kaunas was the largest city and the centre of a county in the Duchy of Trakai of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Trakai Palatinate since 1413. In the Russian Empire, it was the capital of the Kaunas Governorate from 1843 to 1915. During the interwar period, it served as the temporary capital of Lithuania, when Vilnius was seized and controlled by Poland between 1920 and 1939. The Town Hall of Kaunas () stands in the middle of the Town Hall Square at the heart of the Old Town, Kaunas, Lithuania.The structure dates from the 16th century. It houses a Museum of Ceramics. History The Town Hall is distinguished by its slenderness and grace. Its tower of height of 53 meters is the highest in the old city. Present Town Hall located in the square was not the first in Kaunas. The previous one was destroyed by the fire. The construction of Kaunas town hall started in 1542. Sąjūdis (, "Movement"), initially known as the Reform Movement of Lithuania ( lt, Lietuvos Persitvarkymo Sąjūdis), is the political organisation which led the struggle for Lithuanian independence in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It was established on 3 June 1988, and was led by Vytautas Landsbergis. Its goal was to seek the return of independent status for Lithuania. Petrašiūnai Cemetery
Petrašiūnai Cemetery ( lt, Petrašiūnų kapinės) is Lithuania's premiere last resting place formally designated for graves of people influential in national history, politics, arts, and science. Location Petrašiūnai Cemetery is located about south-east of the center of Kaunas, Lithuania. It covers over in a quiet area of a peninsula formed by the Neman River where its bend was widened by Kaunas Reservoir.
