''Superboy'' is an American television series based on the fictional DC comic book character Superman's early years as Superboy. The show ran from 1988–1992 in syndication. It was renamed ''The Adventures of Superboy'' at the start of the third season. Production history The ''Superboy'' series was brought to the screen by executive producers Ilya and Alexander Salkind, the producers of the first three '' Superman'' films and the 1984 ''Supergirl'' film. This series and the release of the 1988 '' Superman'' animated series on CBS coincided with the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Superman character that year. Ironically, the series came about a year after DC Comics had "erased" the character of Superboy from their continuity in the ''Man of Steel'' reboot by John Byrne. Cary Bates (born 1948) is an American comic book, animation, television and film writer. He is best known for his work on ''The Flash'', '' Superman'', ''Superboy, the Legion of Superheroes'' and ''Captain Atom''. Biography Early career Bates began submitting ideas for comic book covers to DC Comics at the age of 13, and a number of them were bought and published, the first as the cover to '' Superman'' #167 (Feb. 1964). Bates began to sell stories to DC when he was 17. Bates is best known for his work for DC Comics on such titles as ''Action Comics'', ''Captain Atom'', ''The Flash'', '' Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes'', and ''Superman''. He began working for the publisher in 1963 and continued to do so until the early 1990s. Gary Rosen
Rosenshontz was a children's music duo popular in the U.S. in the 1970s and 1980s. Made up of Gary Rosen and Bill Shontz, the group recorded six albums between 1980 and 1994. Some of their more popular songs included "Share It", "Hugga, Hugga" and "The Best That I Can." By the early 1990s they had gone their separate ways and Rosen and Shontz went on to produce several solo albums. The Rosen Family and Bill Shontz continue to perform, albeit separately. History Gary Rosen and Bill Shontz met in New York City in the early 1970s and formed the folk-flavored duo Rosenshontz in 1974. Modestly successful as a grown-up act, Rosenshontz got its big break when a kids' song the pair had written was featured on TV's ''Captain Kangaroo''. Now children's entertainers, Rosen and Shontz moved to Brattleboro, Vermont, in 1977 and released their first album, ''Tickles You!'', in 1980. A clip show is an episode of a television series that consists primarily of excerpts from previous episodes. Most clip shows feature the format of a frame story in which cast members recall past events from past installments of the show, depicted with a clip of the event presented as a flashback. Clip shows are also known as cheaters, particularly in the field of animation. Clip shows are often played before series finales as a way to summarize the entire series, or once syndication becomes highly likely as a way to increase the number of episodes that can be sold. Other times, however, clip shows are simply produced for budgetary reasons (i.e. to avoid additional costs from shooting in a certain setting, or from casting actors to appear in new material).
