Rinzin Dorji
Rinzin Dorji (born 1976) also known as Rinzin Rinzin, is a runner from Pam village in Trashigang, Bhutan. He is the first Bhutanese runner to participate in the New York Marathon. He is not related to Rinzin Dorji who is a member of the National Council of Bhutan which is the upper house of Bhutan bicameral Parliament. Rinzin worked for Amankora resort as a guide in Paro and would sometimes accompany his guests in the short run. He worked at Amankora from 2004 to May 2010 and quit to pursue a marathon because he felt running provided an opportunity for him. His passion to run was identified by a tourist named Ynaar who is an active member of New York Road Runners, the organizers of the New York City Marathon. Ynaar and Rinzin Dorji used to run together in Bhutan distances up to 20 km. Trashigang
Trashigang ( dz, བཀྲ་ཤིས་སྒང་།), or Tashigang, meaning "fortress of auspicious mount," is a town in eastern Bhutan and the district capital of the Trashigang Dzongkhag (district). The town lies to the east side of the valley above the Drangme Chhu river just south of where it is joined by the Gamri River. Trashigang is the eastern terminus of the Lateral Road, Bhutan's main highway leading to Phuntsholing in the southwest. The New York City Marathon (currently branded TCS New York City Marathon after its headline sponsor) is an annual marathon () that courses through the five boroughs of New York City. National Council (Bhutan)
The National Council is the upper house of Bhutan's bicameral Parliament, which also comprises the Druk Gyalpo (Dragon King) and the National Assembly. Similar to the Rajya Sabha of neighbouring India and the upper houses of other bicameral Westminster-style parliaments, it cannot author monetary or budget-related bills. Paro, Bhutan
Paro ( dz, སྤ་རོ་) is a town and seat of Paro District, in the Paro Valley of Bhutan. It is a historic town with many sacred sites and historical buildings scattered throughout the area. It is also home to Paro International Airport, Bhutan's sole international airport. Paro International Airport is served by Drukair. Architecture The main street has many examples of traditionally decorated buildings. The Dungtse Lhakhang (a 15th-century temple) and the Ugyen Perli Palace are near the new bridge. Marathon
The marathon is a long-distance foot race with a distance of , usually run as a road race, but the distance can be covered on trail routes. The marathon can be completed by running or with a run/walk strategy. There are also wheelchair divisions. More than 800 marathons are held throughout the world each year, with the vast majority of competitors being recreational athletes, as larger marathons can have tens of thousands of participants. New York Road Runners (NYRR) is a non-profit running organization based in New York City whose mission is to help and inspire people through running. It was founded in 1958 by Ted Corbitt with 47 members and has since grown to a membership of more than 60,000. As of 2012, it was considered to be the premiere running organization in the United States. Mary Wittenberg
Mary Wittenberg ( Robertson; born July 17, 1962) is an American sports executive who serves as president of professional women's soccer club NJ/NY Gotham FC. She was previously the president of the cycling team, and president and chief executive officer of New York Road Runners (NYRR) through May 18, 2015. Wittenberg oversaw the TCS New York City Marathon and several other races, events, and programs that draw over 300,000 yearly participants. Under Wittenberg's leadership, NYRR helped develop new initiatives such as the World Marathon Majors Series and several community programs that have introduced running to underprivileged children.
