Ringo Madlingozi
Ringo Madlingozi (born 12 December 1964) is a South African singer, songwriter, record producer and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa. Madlingozi rose to fame when he and his band Peto won the Shell Road to Fame contest in 1986. He later formed a group called Gecko Moon with Alan Cameron, a fellow Peto member. Early life Madlingozi was born in Peddie, Eastern Cape. A chance encounter with renowned producer and head of Island Records, Chris Blackwell, changed the course of Madlingozi's creative life. "Blackwell chided me for not sticking to what I know best – my people, my language and my culture," Madlingozi said. "It was as if a bright light had been turned on in my mind and this led directly to the recording of my debut album, ''Vukani''." The album marked a new direction for Madlingozi. Peddie (Xhosa: ''iNgqushwa)'' is a town in the Ngqushwa Local Municipality within the Amathole District Municipality in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The town is situated 55 km south-west of Qonce and 67 km east of Makhanda. It developed from a frontier post established in 1835 and named Fort Peddie, and became a municipality in 1905. African popular music (also styled Afropop, Afro-pop or Afro pop), like African traditional music, is vast and varied. Most contemporary genres of African popular music build on cross-pollination with western popular music. ''Test the Nation'' is a television programme, first broadcast in 2001 by BNN (Dutch broadcaster), BNN in the Netherlands. ''Muvhango'' is a South African television soap opera, created by Duma Ndlovu. It is broadcast on the public TV channel SABC 2, and has an average of 4 million daily viewers. The first episode was aired on 7 April 1997. It was the first Tshivenda language TV drama, but later became multilingual in order to showcase that languages and cultures of South Africa should be used to unite rather than divide. The creator of ''Muvhango'' is Zulu by ancestry, but can speak Tshivenda and is fluent in all South African languages. The show is built on a premise that "umuntu ''ngumuntu ngabantu''" meaning that we exist within a context.
