Ringerike (municipality)
Ringerike is a municipality in the traditional and electoral district Buskerud in Viken county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Ringerike. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Hønefoss. The municipality of Ringerike was created on 1 January 1964 after the merger of the town of Hønefoss and the rural municipalities of Hole, Norderhov, Tyristrand, and Ådal. However, the area of Hole was removed from the municipality of Ringerike on 1 January 1977 to become a separate municipality once again. The historic area of Ringerike included not just the modern municipality of Ringerike but also Hole and Krødsherad, Modum and Sigdal. Ringerike is a traditional district in Norway, commonly consisting of the municipalities Hole and Ringerike in Buskerud county. In older times, Ringerike had a larger range which went westward to the municipalities Krødsherad, Modum, and Sigdal, also in Buskerud. Ringerike has a rich history that is connected with one of the most notable kings in the history of Norway, the father of King Harald Fairhair Halfdan the Black, who subdued Gandalf, King of Alfheim and half of Vingulmork, and the Dagling clan. Gandalf was possibly the last king of Ringerike, whose name is given to the eponymous King Hring, son of Raum the Old (cf. Romerike), son of Nór (the eponymous ancestor of Norwegians), according to the Sagas of the ancient Northernlands, better known as the Orkneyinga saga. Ringerike Grand Prix is a road bicycle race held annually near Hønefoss, in the region of Ringerike, Norway. The race was created in 1975 as the Fossen Grand Prix, and was ranked 2.2 on the UCI Europe Tour between 2005 and 2010. Ringerike Hospital
Ringerike Hospital is a hospital which deals with patients from the Buskerud area, especially around Hønefoss. The hospital is part of Vestre Viken Hospital Trust of Southern and Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. It is the main hospital for around 75,000 people, with capacity for 872 in-patients. It covers the districts of Ringerike and Hole, the municipalities of Jevnaker and Sør-Aurdal, as well as parts of Hallingdal and Valdres. Included in its remit as hospital of Hønefoss, is the smaller clinic of Hallingdal Hospital at Ål. Ringerike Line
The Ringerike Line ( no, Ringeriksbanen or ''Ringeriksbana'') is a proposed extension of the Bergen Line from Jong, Sandvika to Hønefoss, Norway. In 2022, the project was postponed; the government has no commitment to any timeframe (as of Q4 2022). The proposed line would reduce travel from Oslo to Bergen by and 50 minutes. Currently trains from the Bergen Line to Oslo must run via Drammen on the Randsfjord Line and the Drammen Line, or via Roa on the Roa–Hønefoss Line and the Gjøvik Line. The project was presented as part of the original proposal of the Bergen Line when approved by Parliament in 1894, but due to the narrow gauge on the Drammen Line at the time, a temporary solution via Roa was chosen instead. Ringerike Prison ( Norwegian: ''Ringerike fengsel'') is located in Ringerike municipality, just south of the small town of Tyristrand, Norway, not far from Tyrifjorden. The prison is, according to the Norwegian standard, large and secure. The total area within the wall covers approx. 74 acres.
