Ridgeway (London)
The Ridgeway is a "cycling permitted pedestrian priority" footpath owned by Thames Water in southeast London. It runs between Plumstead and Crossness on an embankment that covers the Joseph Bazalgette Southern Outfall Sewer. Route The Ridgeway runs ENE/WSW: the western third between Plumstead railway station and The Link community centre in Thamesmead is in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, the remainder of the path towards the Thames Path and Crossness Pumping Station is in the London Borough of Bexley. A similar path called the Greenway covers the Northern Outfall Sewer. History The sewers were installed after an outbreak of cholera in 1853 and the "Great Stink" of 1858. Development The Greenwich end of the Ridgeway was refurbished in 2010 and the Bexley end of the Ridgeway was refurbished in 2017. Barking Riverside is a railway station in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, East London. The station serves the Barking Riverside regeneration area, and was built as part of an £327m extension of the Gospel Oak to Barking Line to the area. It opened on 18 July 2022. It is served by London Overground, and provides interchange with the Thames Clippers boat service from Barking Riverside Pier. The extension runs partly over the existing London, Tilbury and Southend line from , operated over by c2c, and over of new track laid to the new station. Sustrans is a United Kingdom-based walking, wheeling and cycling charity, and the custodian of the National Cycle Network. Its flagship project is the National Cycle Network, which has created of signed cycle routes throughout the United Kingdom including of traffic-free paths.
