Ride The Skies
''Ride the Skies'' is the second studio album by noise rock band Lightning Bolt. The second track, "Saint Jacques," is named after bassist Dan St. Jacques, a friend of the band and member of the bands Olneyville Sound System, Vincebus Eruptum (former), and Landed, the latter of which both Brian Gibson and Brian Chippendale are former members. Scandinavian free jazz power trio The Thing recorded a cover of track #4, "Ride the Sky". The cover is on their 2006 CD '' Action Jazz'', released on the Norwegian label Smalltown Superjazzz. Olneyville is a neighborhood in Providence, Rhode Island bordered by Atwells Avenue to the north, U.S. Route 6 to the south and Rhode Island Route 10 to the east. Brian Gibson (musician)
Brian Gibson (born July 25, 1975) is a musician, artist, and video game developer based out of Providence, Rhode Island. Gibson is best known as the bassist for the band Lightning Bolt. In the summer of 2015 he co-founded the game development company Drool. At Drool, he created the art and music for the video game '' Thumper'' and co-designed the game alongside Marc Flury. Thumper was released with critical acclaim in October 2016. He was previously a lead artist working at video game company Harmonix since 2001, but quit in the summer of 2015. Sound Brian Gibson is particularly known for his unique and complex set-up, tuning, and use of his bass guitar. Brian Chippendale (born July 22, 1973) is an American musician and artist, known as the drummer and vocalist for the experimental noise rock band Lightning Bolt and for his graphic art. Chippendale is based in Providence, Rhode Island. Brian plays an assortment of drums usually decorated with prints he makes himself. He uses two ride cymbals as crash rides and a Ludwig snare drum. Early life and education Chippendale was born July 22, 1973 in Newburgh, New York and was raised in a suburb near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Chippendale is also an artist and attended printmaking classes at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in the late 1990s through 2000, but did not graduate. The Thing are a Norwegian/Swedish jazz trio, consisting of Mats Gustafsson (saxophones), Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (double bass), and Paal Nilssen-Love (drums). Name The Thing took their name from a track on Don Cherry's 1966 album '' Where Is Brooklyn?'' Performances and recordings The Thing were established in February 2000 to play a series of concerts in Stockholm and a recording of Don Cherry compositions that was released in Sweden by the label Crazy Wisdom/Universal. Melding German, British and American traditions of free music, their repertoire has later been collected from various sources such as James Blood Ulmer, Frank Lowe, PJ Harvey, White Stripes and Joe McPhee. Released on January 16, 1968, the album features a heavy-thunderous blues sound, which would later be known as heavy metal. Noise rock (sometimes called noise punk) is a noise music, noise-oriented style of experimental rock that spun off from punk rock in the 1980s.
