Richard Sprigg Jr.
Richard Sprigg Jr. (17691806) was an American lawyer, jurist and politician from Prince George's County, Maryland. He represented Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives and later served as a state court justice. Sprigg was born about 1769 in Prince George's County, Maryland. From 1792-1793 Sprigg was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates. Sprigg was elected to congress in 1796 to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Gabriel Duvall. Sprigg served in the U.S. Congress from 1796 until 1799 and again in 1801 and 1802. Walter Bowie (October 15, 1748 – November 9, 1810) was an American slave owner and politician. Biography Born in Mattaponi, near Nottingham, Prince George's County, Maryland, Bowie attended Reverend John Eversfield's School near Nottingham, the common schools in Annapolis, and Craddock’s School near Baltimore. His father, Captain William Bowie bought him a large farm near Collington, Maryland, known originally as "Darnell's Grove" and later as "Locust Grove" and "Willow Grove". He engaged in agricultural pursuits, was a large landowner, and also was interested in shipping. He served as one of four members of the Maryland constitutional convention from Prince George's County in November 1776. During the American Revolutionary War, Bowie served as captain and later major of a Prince George's County company. John Chew Thomas
John Chew Thomas (October 15, 1764 – May 10, 1836) was an American politician who served as a Federalist member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Maryland's 2nd congressional district from 1799 to 1801. He also served as a member of the Maryland State House of Delegates from 1796 to 1797. Born in Perryville, Maryland, Thomas attended private schools and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia in 1783. He moved to "Fairland" in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, around 1789, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in Philadelphia on December 15, 1787, but did not engage in extensive practice. He was elected as a Federalist to the Sixth Congress, and served from March 4, 1799, to March 3, 1801, but declined to be a candidate for reelection in 1800. In 1810, Thomas sold Fairland, freed most of his slaves, and moved to Pennsylvania, where he lived until his death near Leiperville.
