Richard Murden
Richard William Murden (22 April 1906 – 20 December 1997) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for two terms from 1953 until 1959. He was a member of the Liberal Party. Murden was born in Sydney and was the son of a master builder. He was educated at Petersham High School and was initially an apprentice French polisher but lost his job during the depression. He later entered the furniture retail business and owned a furniture shop. Murden was active in community organizations in the Ashfield area including the Haberfield Progress Association, The Scout Association and the National Trust of Australia. Between 1944 and 1953 and in 1959, Murden was elected as an alderman on the Ashfield Municipal Council and he was the mayor in 1951 and 1952. Haberfield is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The Order of Australia is an honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, on the advice of the Australian Government. David Hunter (New South Wales Politician)
David Benjamin Hunter (5 September 1905 – 31 August 1981) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1940 to 1976, representing three successive conservative parties - the United Australia Party, Democratic Party, and Liberal Party. He was the first blind member of the Parliament of New South Wales, and held the seat of Croydon and its successor seats of Ashfield-Croydon and Ashfield for a total of 36 years. Hunter was born in Sydney, and lost his sight at the age of six after contracting meningitis. He was educated at the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children, and worked as an insurance broker before his election to parliament. He was actively involved in the United Australia Party, serving on its central council from 1937 to 1937 and 1940 to 1942. The Liberal Party of Australia (New South Wales Division), commonly known as the New South Wales Liberals, is the state division of the Liberal Party of Australia in New South Wales. The party currently governs in New South Wales in coalition with the National Party of Australia (NSW). The party is part of the federal Liberal Party which is in opposition nationally.
