Richard Le Hir
Richard Le Hir (July 9, 1947 – November 4, 2018) was a French-born Canadian politician, lawyer and management consultant living in Quebec. He represented Iberville in the National Assembly of Quebec as a member of the Parti Québécois and served in the Quebec cabinet. The son of Gaston Le Hir and Henriette Rochette, both teachers, he was born in Versailles. Le Hir attended the Collège Stanislas in Montreal. He studied literature at the University of Paris, Spanish studies at the University of Barcelona and law at the Université de Montréal. In 1974, he was admitted to the Bar of Quebec. Le Hir served in management positions in various companies, including Esso, Laurentian Group and Texaco Canada. Jacques Parizeau
Jacques Parizeau (; August 9, 1930June 1, 2015) was a Canadian politician and Québécois economist who was a noted Quebec sovereigntist and the 26th premier of Quebec from September 26, 1994, to January 29, 1996. Early life and career Parizeau was born in Montreal, Quebec, the son of Germaine (née Biron) and Gérard Parizeau, from a family of wealth and privilege. Gérard Parizeau built one of Quebec’s great fortunes and one of the province’s largest financial firms from a brokerage he established in the 1930s. Jacques' great-grandfather was a founder of the Montreal ''Chambre de Commerce'' and his grandfather was a doctor of renown and a ''Chevalier'' of the ''Légion d’honneur.'' 1998 Quebec General Election
The 1998 Quebec general election was held on November 30, 1998, to elect members of the National Assembly of the Province of Quebec, Canada. The incumbent Parti Québécois, led by Premier Lucien Bouchard, won re-election, defeating the Quebec Liberal Party, led by Jean Charest. After the narrow defeat of the PQ's proposal for political independence for Quebec in an economic union with the rest of Canada in the 1995 Quebec referendum, PQ leader Jacques Parizeau resigned. In January 1996, Bouchard left federal politics, where he was leader of the Bloc Québécois in the House of Commons of Canada, to lead the Parti Québécois and become premier. Jean Charest had also left federal politics, where he had been leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. Jean-Paul Bergeron
Jean-Paul Bergeron (born October 21, 1947) is a Quebec politician. He previously served as the member for Iberville in the Quebec National Assembly as a member of the Parti Québécois from 1998 until 2003. Biography Bergeron was born in Saint-Alexandre, Quebec. He earned his bachelor's degree in pedagogy from the Université de Montréal in 1969. He holds a certificate in computer science, a master's degree in education and a Doctorate in mathematics from the Université du Québec à Montréal. Bergeron was a high school mathematics teacher from and a lecturer at TÉLUQ. Political career Bergeron ran in the 1998 Quebec provincial election for the seat of Iberville that was left open by the decision of former Cabinet Minister Richard Le Hir to not run. He won easily. Yvon Lafrance
Yvon Lafrance (4 August 1944 – 30 September 2022) was a Canadian politician in Quebec, and was the Member of the National Assembly for the electoral district of Iberville. Lafrance was born in Iberville, Quebec on 4 August 1944. First elected in 1989 election, he served as a Liberal backbencher under Premier Robert Bourassa for most of the term. Stroke
A stroke is a medical condition in which poor blood flow to the brain causes cell death. There are two main types of stroke: ischemic, due to lack of blood flow, and hemorrhagic, due to bleeding. Both cause parts of the brain to stop functioning properly. Signs and symptoms of a stroke may include an inability to move or feel on one side of the body, problems understanding or speaking, dizziness, or loss of vision to one side. Signs and symptoms often appear soon after the stroke has occurred. If symptoms last less than one or two hours, the stroke is a transient ischemic attack (TIA), also called a mini-stroke.
