Richard Ford (East Grinstead MP)
Sir Richard Ford (1758 – 3 May 1806) was an English politician who sat in the house of Commons from 1789 to 1791. Ford was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the borough of East Grinstead in Sussex at an unopposed by-election in February 1789. He held that seat until the general election in 1790, when he was returned unopposed for the borough of Appleby in Westmorland.Stooks Smith, page 560 He served less than a year as an MP for Appleby, until he resigned from the Commons in early 1791 by accepting the post of Steward of East Hendred. The House of Commons of Great Britain was the lower house of the Parliament of Great Britain between 1707 and 1801. In 1707, as a result of the Acts of Union of that year, it replaced the House of Commons of England and the third estate of the Parliament of Scotland, as one of the most significant changes brought about by the Union of the kingdoms of England and Scotland into the Kingdom of Great Britain. In the course of the 18th century, the office of Prime Minister developed. The notion that a government remains in power only as long as it retains the support of Parliament also evolved, leading to the first ever motion of no confidence, when Lord North's government failed to end the American Revolution. The modern notion that only the support of the House of Commons is necessary for a government to survive, however, was of later development. George Medley
George Medley (1720–1796) was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1768 and 1790. Medley was the son of Thomas Medley of Buxted Place and his wife Annabella Dashwood, daughter of Sir Samuel Dashwood MP former Lord Mayor of London and was born on 6 August. 1720. He is reported to be a descendant of Margaret Wotton, Marchioness of Dorset (1485 – 6 October 1535) through his paternal line. He is reported a descendant of Arthur Plantagenet, 1st Viscount Lisle, KG (died 3 March 1542) through his paternal line. He became a wine merchant in Portugal, where he amassed an immense property. He succeeded his brother in 1751. In 1755 he lost a part of his property as a result of the Lisbon earthquake. He subsequently returned to England and settled as a country gentleman in Sussex. William Grimston
William Grimston (1750–1814) was an English politician. From 1797 he was known as William Bucknall. Life He was the second son of James Grimston, 2nd Viscount Grimston and his wife Mary Bucknall, and the younger brother of James Grimston, 3rd Viscount Grimston. He was born at Gorhambury in Hertfordshire, and was educated at Eton College and Christ's College, Cambridge, matriculating in 1768 and graduating M.A. in 1770. Grimston was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1767. He became Member of Parliament for in 1784, filling the place of his brother James (who, as an Irish peer, could sit in the House of Commons); James Grimston withdrew as a candidate on polling day and William took the seat. Robert Banks Jenkinson, 2nd Earl of Liverpool, (7 June 1770 – 4 December 1828) was a British Tory statesman who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1812 to 1827. Rear-Admiral John Leveson-Gower (11 July 1740 – 15 August 1792) was a Royal Navy officer and politician from the Leveson-Gower family. As a junior officer he saw action at the Battle of Lagos in August 1759 during the Seven Years' War. As captain of he was present at the Battle of Ushant on 17 July 1778 during the American War of Independence. He went on to be a junior Lord of the Admiralty and then First Naval Lord. Richard Penn (governor)
Richard Penn Jr. (1735 – 27 May 1811, Richmond, Surrey, England) served as the lieutenant governor of the Province of Pennsylvania from 1771 to 1773, and was later a member of the British Parliament. Life Penn, of Laleham in Middlesex, was the second son of Richard Penn Sr. (1706–1771) and his wife Hannah Lardner, daughter of Richard Lardner M.D.; and the grandson of William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania. He was educated at Eton College and St John's College, Cambridge before joining the Inner Temple. In 1763 he and his brother John visited Pennsylvania, of which his family were still sole proprietors. He was qualified as a councilor on 12 January 1764. William Hamilton Nisbet
William Hamilton Nisbet (1747 – 17 July 1822) was a British politician. He was the eldest son of William Nisbet of Archerfield House, Dirleton and his wife Mary, the daughter and heiress of Alexander Hamilton of Pencaitland, Haddington and Dechmont Linlithgow, and also the heiress of James, 5th Lord Belhaven to the estates of Biel and Presmennan. He was educated at Eton School. He served in the British Army, initially as a cornet and then as sub-lieutenant in the Grenadier Guards, retiring in 1774. He was very well to do from his own and his wife's inheritances and entered Parliament in 1777 as the member for Haddingtonshire, sitting until 1780.
