Richard Broughton (MP)
Richard Broughton (1542–1604), of Lower Broughton and Owlbury, Bishop's Castle, Shropshire, was an English politician and judge. He was born in 1542, son of Robert Broughton and his Welsh wife Jane, daughter of Reignold ap Griffith Vycha. He was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Stafford 1572, and for Lichfield 1586, 1589 and 1593. By profession a lawyer who was called to the bar at the Inner Temple in 1568, he became active in the affairs of Staffordshire as well as with Shropshire and Wales. He was appointed Steward of the City of Lichfield by 1583; Deputy Justice of Chester by 1588; Recorder of Tamworth by 1584-98; Second Justice of North Wales from 1594 until removed ostensibly on grounds of age and health in 1602; Vice-Justice of Chester 1599-1600; Justice of the Peace (J.P) for counties of Anglesey, Caernarvonshire, Montgomeryshire and Merionethshire from 1594 and Shropshire from 1596. Bishop's Castle
Bishop's Castle is a market town in the south west of Shropshire, England. According to the 2011 Census it had a population of 1,893. Bishop's Castle is east of the Wales-England border, about north-west of Ludlow and about south-west of Shrewsbury. To the south is Clun and to the east is Church Stretton. The town is within an agricultural area and has also become known for its alternative community including artists, musicians, writers and craftspeople. The surrounding area is hillwalking country and Bishop's Castle is a "Walkers are Welcome Town", gaining the award in 2008. The long distance footpath the Shropshire Way runs through the town and Offa's Dyke is only a few miles to the west. Walter Devereux, 1st Earl Of Essex
Walter Devereux, 1st Earl of Essex, KG (16 September 1541 – 22 September 1576), was an English nobleman and general. From 1573 until his death he fought in Ireland in connection with the Plantations of Ireland, most notably the Rathlin Island massacre. He was the father of Robert, 2nd Earl of Essex, who was Elizabeth I's favourite during her later years. Family Walter Devereux was the eldest son of Sir Richard Devereux, who was created a knight of the Bath on 20 February 1547 and died that same year, in the lifetime of his father, the 1st Viscount Hereford. Walter Devereux's mother was Lady Dorothy Hastings, daughter of the 1st Earl of Huntingdon and Anne Stafford, said to have been a mistress of King Henry VIII. Blithfield is a civil parish in the East Staffordshire district of Staffordshire, England. It includes the settlements of Admaston (a small hamlet in Staffordshire), Newton along with Blithfield Hall, home of the Bagot family since 1360.
