Richard Bolt (RNZAF Officer)
Air Marshal Sir Richard Bruce Bolt, (16 July 1923 – 27 July 2014) was a bomber pilot in the Second World War and a senior Royal New Zealand Air Force officer in the post-war years. He was Chief of the Air Staff from 1974 to 1976 and Chief of the Defence Staff from 1976 to 1980, when he retired from the military. Early life and career Born at the Kelvin maternity home in Auckland in 1923, Bolt was educated at Nelson College from 1936 to 1939. His father was the pioneering New Zealand aviator George Bolt. During the Second World War, Bolt served with the Pathfinder Force, flying the Avro Lancaster bomber. Richard Webb (New Zealand Army Officer)
Lieutenant General Sir Richard James Holden Webb, (21 December 1919 – 24 January 1990) was a senior commander in the New Zealand Army. He served as Chief of the General Staff, the professional head of the New Zealand Army, from 1970 to 1971, and in New Zealand's most senior military post as Chief of Defence Staff from 1971 until his retirement in 1976. Early life and family Born in Nelson, New Zealand, on 21 December 1919, Webb was the second child of George Robert Holden Webb and Jessie Muriel Webb (née Hair). He was educated at Nelson College from 1930 to 1937, where he was a prefect and a member of the 1st XV rugby team in his final year. Commander Of The Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. The Auckland Cup is an annual race held by the Auckland Racing Club (ARC). It is an Open Handicap for thoroughbred racehorses competed on the flat turf over 3200 metres (two miles) at Ellerslie Racecourse in Auckland, New Zealand. The race was formerly graded as a Group One (G1) event but as from 2022 is a Group 2. It was first contested in 1874. History The first meeting of the Auckland Racing Club was in May 1874. One of the events, run over a distance of miles, was named the Auckland Cup. This race was won by Mr. J Watt's three-year-old Batter. David Lange
David Russell Lange ( ; 4 August 1942 – 13 August 2005) was a New Zealand politician who served as the 32nd prime minister of New Zealand from 1984 to 1989. Lange was born and brought up in Otahuhu, the son of a medical doctor. He became a lawyer by profession, and represented poor and struggling people in civil rights causes in the rapidly changing Auckland of the 1970s. After serving as legal advisor to the Polynesian Panthers, Lange was first elected to the New Zealand Parliament in the Mangere by-election of 1977. He became a prominent debater within parliament, and soon gained a reputation for cutting wit (sometimes directed against himself) and eloquence. Lange became the Leader of the Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition in 1983, succeeding Bill Rowling.
