Ria Christina Gerodias Fariñas (born March 6, 1984) is a Filipino politician who represented the 1st District of Ilocos Norte in the Philippine House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022. Career On May 13, 2019, she won the congressional election for the 1st District of Ilocos Norte by 106,000 votes defeating Ryan Remigio of the Nacionalista Party by 60,000 votes making her the first female representative of Ilocos Norte's 1st District. Ilocos Norte's 1st Congressional District
Ilocos Norte's 1st congressional district is one of the two congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Ilocos Norte. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1916 and earlier in the Philippine Assembly from 1907 to 1916. The district consists of the provincial capital city of Laoag and adjacent municipalities of Adams, Bacarra, Bangui, Burgos, Carasi, Dumalneg, Pagudpud, Pasuquin, Piddig, Sarrat and Vintar. Rodolfo "Rudy" Castro Fariñas, Sr. (born September 5, 1951) is a Filipino politician and the former Majority Floor Leader of the House of Representatives of the Philippines and represents the 1st District of Ilocos Norte, the Philippines. Fariñas was the last person to serve as governor of Ilocos Norte who was not related to the Marcos family. Early life and education Fariñas was born on September 5, 1951. In 1971, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (AB) degree from Ateneo de Manila University. He then studied law and graduated from the Ateneo de Manila Law School in 1978. Ilocos Norte Provincial Board
The Ilocos Norte Provincial Board is the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial legislature) of the Philippine province of Ilocos Norte. The members are elected via plurality-at-large voting: the province is divided into two districts, each having five seats. A voter votes up to five names, with the top five candidates per district being elected. The vice governor is the ''ex officio'' presiding officer, and only votes to break ties. The vice governor is elected via the plurality voting system province-wide. The districts used in appropriation of members is coextensive with the legislative districts of Ilocos Norte.
