Rhuddlan Railway Station
Rhuddlan was a railway station located in Rhuddlan, Denbighshire. It first opened in 1858 as part of the Vale of Clwyd Railway, and afterwards under the auspices of several different companies. The station closed to passengers on 19 September 1955, some seven years after nationalisation. History The railway at Rhuddlan opened on 5 October 1858 as part of the Vale of Clwyd Railway, which connected with the station at Rhyl railway station for the Chester and Holyhead Railway. At opening, Rhuddlan station had a single platform on the east side of the line. While there was a passing loop for trains, this did not have a platform for a second train to stop. The station building was brick built, while a goods store on the platform was constructed out of wood. The platform storage was increased in 1879, when a second room was built. Rhuddlan
Rhuddlan () is a town, community, and electoral ward in the county of Denbighshire, Wales, in the historic county of Flintshire. Its associated urban zone is mainly on the right bank of the Clwyd; it is directly south of seafront town Rhyl. It gave its name to the Welsh district of Rhuddlan from 1974 to 1996. British Railways (BR), which from 1965 traded as British Rail, was a state-owned company that operated most of the overground rail transport in Great Britain from 1948 to 1997. Foryd Railway Station
Foryd railway station (later known as Kinmel Bay Halt) was a railway station built to serve Kinmel Bay, then in Flintshire but now in Conwy County Borough, Wales. History The original Foryd station was opened on 5 October 1858 and was situated on the Denbigh, Ruthin and Corwen Railway, incorporating a station house designed by the Denbigh firm of Lloyd Williams and Underwood. The station was then moved to its second site, this time on the North Wales Coast Line, on 20 April 1885. where it remained until its closure in 1948. There were four tracks running through the station, two slow and two fast, with the two platforms located adjacent to the slow tracks. The London Midland Region (LMR) was one of the six regions created on the formation of the nationalised British Railways (BR), and initially consisted of ex-London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) lines in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The coaches were old passenger vehicles no longer suitable for use in trains, which were converted to provide sleeping and living space at static locations. The British Newspaper Archive web site provides access to searchable digitized archives of British and Irish newspapers. It was launched in November 2011. History The British Library Newspapers section was based in Colindale in north London, until 2013, and is now divided between the St Pancras and Boston Spa sites. The library has an almost complete collection of British and Irish newspapers since 1840. Chester And Holyhead Railway
The Chester and Holyhead Railway was an early railway company conceived to improve transmission of Government dispatches between London and Ireland, as well as ordinary railway objectives. Its construction was hugely expensive, chiefly due to the cost of building the Britannia Tubular Bridge over the Menai Strait. The company had relied on Government support in facilitating the ferry service, and this proved to be uncertain. The company opened its main line throughout in 1850.
