Rhos Railway Station
Rhos railway station was a station in Rhosllannerchrugog, Wrexham Wrexham ( ; cy, Wrecsam; ) is a city and the administrative centre of Wrexham County Borough in Wales. It is located between the Welsh mountains and the lower Dee Valley, near the border with Cheshire in England. Historically in the count ..., Wales on the Shrewsbury and Chester Railway. It was located in a remote spot almost a mile to the east of Rhosllannerchrugog, to the south of a road overbridge which carried Corkscrew Lane, in Pentre Bychan, over the line. The station was opened on 14 October 1848 and closed in March 1855. No trace of this station remains today. It is not to be confused with another station by the same name which was actually in the village of Rhosllannerchrugog, on the Rhos Branch line from Wrexham through Legacy. Rhos (GWR) Railway Station
Rhos (GWR) railway station served the village of Rhosllanerchrugog, Denbighshire, Wales, from 1901 to 1963 on the Pontcysyllte branch. History The station was opened on 1 October 1901 by the Great Western Railway. It was situated at the west end of School Street. On the west side of the line was a siding that served Rhosllanerchrugog Brick Works and the signal box. Passenger services ran from Wrexham, and initially terminated at Rhos Station, with only goods using the Pontcysyllte branch to the south - but from 1905 to 1915 railmotor services were introduced and these ran as far south as Wynn Hall Halt. After this service was withdrawn Rhos again became the terminus for passenger services. Rhos Branch
The Ruabon Brook Tramway was a Welsh branch railway line linking the Ruabon coalfield to the Shropshire Union Canal at Froncysyllte, with a private extension into the Monsanto works at Cefn Mawr which reconnected to the main line at Trevor. The area was rich in coal, clay and minerals. The tramway was opened on 26 Nov 1805 between Pontcysyllte and Acrefair. The line was extended in 1808 from Acrefair to the Plas Madoc Colliery in Plasbennion and then into "The Delph" which climbed towards Penycae; after 1808 the line advanced via the industrial area around Wynn Hall and Copperas towards its summit at Pant, with level crossings on Plas Bennion and Penycae roads. From 1860 the line was converted from a tramway to a railway, frequently referred to as the Pontcysyllte Branch, with an extension to Rhosllannerchrugog opening on 30 Jan 1867; it continued as the Rhos Branch via Legacy and Rhostyllen and eventually joined the main line slightly South of Croes Newydd junction. Wrexham County Borough ( cy, Bwrdeistref Sirol Wrecsam) is a county borough, with city status, in the north-east of Wales. It borders England to the east and south-east, Powys to the south-west, Denbighshire to the west and Flintshire to the north-west. The county borough has a population of 136,055. Shrewsbury And Chester Railway
The North Wales Mineral Railway was formed to carry coal and ironstone from the mineral-bearing area around Wrexham to the River Dee wharves. It was extended to run from Shrewsbury and formed part of a main line trunk route, under the title The Shrewsbury and Chester Railway. It opened in 1846 from Chester to Ruabon, and in 1848 from Ruabon to Shrewsbury. It later merged with the Great Western Railway. Much of its main line ran through rural areas, but the important mineral area west of Wrexham, and also near Ruabon, led to considerable development of mineral business. A dense network of branches to access pits and ironworks built up, although the hilly terrain made railway construction difficult. Great Western Railway
The Great Western Railway (GWR) was a British railway company that linked London with the southwest, west and West Midlands of England and most of Wales. It was founded in 1833, received its enabling Act of Parliament on 31 August 1835 and ran its first trains in 1838 with the initial route completed between London and Bristol in 1841. Johnstown And Hafod Railway Station
Johnstown & Hafod was a minor station on the Great Western Railway's London to Birkenhead main line. Although the station is gone the railway is still open today as part of the Shrewsbury to Chester Line. The station was situated on the extreme east side of Johnstown and served both there and the adjoining settlement of Rhosllannerchrugog (pron: ''Ross-thlanner-kri-gog'') in Wales.
