Rhaebus (beetle)
''Rhaebus'' (from the Greek: ' curved) is a genus of metallic bean weevils in the subfamily Bruchinae, and the only member of the tribe Rhaebini.Vencl, Fredric & Leschen, Richard. (2014). Appearance ''Rhaebus'' beetles are small, measuring between 3-5 millimetres in length, and are metallic in colour, which is rare in members if the Bruchinae subfamily. Charles Émile Blanchard (6 March 1819 – 11 February 1900) was a French zoologist and entomologist. Career Blanchard was born in Paris. His father was an artist and naturalist and Émile began natural history very early in life. When he was 14 years old, Jean Victoire Audouin (1797—1841), allowed him access to the laboratory of the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle. In 1838, he became a technician or ''préparateu''r in this then, as now, famous institution. In 1841, he became assistant-naturalist. He accompanied Henri Milne-Edwards (1800—1885) and Jean Louis Armand de Quatrefages de Breau (1810—1892) to Sicily on a marine zoology expedition. He published, in 1845 a ''Histoire des insectes'', or History of the insects and, in 1854—1856 ''Zoologie agricole'' or Agricultural Zoology. Ernst Gustav Kraatz
Ernst Gustav Kraatz (13 March 1831 – 2 November 1909) was a German entomologist. He collected and described numerous beetles including Staphylinidae. Kraatz was born in Berlin on 13 March 1831. He studied law in the University of Heidelberg and at the University of Bonn but found no interest in it and through the influence of Carl August Dohrn he shifted to study entomology at the University of Berlin and later became was a professor. He was mainly interested in Coleoptera. Kraatz worked on the beetle fauna of the whole world using the vast collections in the Natural History Museum of Berlin and described numerous species. Loss of eyesight led to stoppage of work and he died in Berlin. Bruchinae
The bean weevils or seed beetles are a subfamily (Bruchinae) of beetles, now placed in the family Chrysomelidae, though they have historically been treated as a separate family. They are granivores, and typically infest various kinds of seeds or beans, living most of their lives inside a single seed. The subfamily includes about 1,650 species and are found worldwide. Bean weevils are generally compact and oval in shape, with small heads somewhat bent under. Sizes range from 1 to 22 mm for some tropical species. Colors are usually black or brown, often with mottled patterns. Although their mandibles may be elongated, they do not have the long snouts characteristic of true weevils. Adults deposit eggs on seeds, then the larvae chew their way into the seed. When ready to pupate, the larvae typically cut an exit hole, then return to their feeding chamber. Amnon Freidberg
Amnon Freidberg ( he, אמנון פרידברג; 18 September 1945 – 10 October 2020) was an Israeli entomologist. In his career he described 257 new insect taxa, predominantly flies. Biography Freidberg was born in 1945 in Haifa. He studied biology in Tel Aviv University and worked with Professor Jehoshua Kugler in taxonomic and faunistic research. In 1971 he completed his MSc thesis on fruit flies of Israel (Tephritidae) and in 1978 his PhD dissertation on the reproductive behavior and reproductive isolation in fruit‑flies. Freidberg was chief editor of the ''Israel Journal of Entomology'' for nearly two decades (1982–1986, 1990–1998, 2005–2012). He was curator of the entomological collection of Tel Aviv University until his retirement in 2013. Fyodor Konstantinovich Lukyanovich (May 29, 1904 – January 17, 1942) was a Russian and Soviet entomologist who specialized in beetles belonging to the Bruchinae and Curculionoidea. Lukyanovich was born in Poltava where he was educated before going to the Institute of Applied Zoology and Phytopathology at Leningrad in 1923. He completed his studies in 1926 but graduated only in 1930 after working at the Poltava Agricultural Experimental Station under D.A. Oglobin and G.G. Jacobson. In 1928 he surveyed locusts in Transbaikalia. In 1934 he began to work on insect taxonomy as an assistant of A. V. Martynova and from 1936 he worked at the All-Union Institute of Plant Protection identifying beetles. In 1938 he began to work at the Zoological Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences under D.A.
