S.S.P. Reyer Venezia Mestre, commonly known as Reyer Venezia or simply Reyer, is an Italian professional basketball club that is based in Venice, Veneto. The club currently plays in the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA), the highest tier of basketball in Italy, as well as the EuroCup. Reyer operates both men's and women's professional teams, both playing in their respective first divisions as of the 2017–18 season. The men's team has been crowned the Italian champions four times, as they won the LBA in 1942, 1943, 2017 and 2019. History The team was founded in 1872 as gymnastics club Società Sportiva Costantino Reyer, by the gymnastics teacher Peter Gallo in Venice. The basketball section was founded in 1925. The Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) is a professional men's club basketball league that has been organised in Italy since 1920. Serie A is organised by Lega Basket, which is regulated by the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP). It is the highest-tier level of the Italian league system. The 2019 LBA Finals was the championship series of the 2018–19 regular season, of the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA), known for sponsorship reasons as the Serie A PosteMobile, the highest professional basketball league in Italy, and the conclusion of the season's playoffs. The third placed Umana Reyer Venezia possessed home advantage (with the first two, the fifth and the seventh games at the Palasport Taliercio) and the 4th placed Banco di Sardegna Sassari contested for the title in a best-of-7 showdown, from June 10 to June 22, 2019. The 2018 FIBA Europe Cup Finals will be the concluding games of the 2017–18 FIBA Europe Cup season. The Finals will be played in a two-legged format, with the first leg being played on April 25 and the second one on 2 May 2018. For the second consecutive time, two teams from the same country will meet in the final. Venue The Palasport Giacomo Del Mauro was the first venue. The Palasport originally had a 3,600 seating capacity. It was expanded to a 5,300 seating capacity in 2008, specifically in order to meet the minimum capacity requirements for EuroLeague games, which require an arena of at least 5,000 seats. Donar, also known as Donar Groningen, is a professional basketball club based in Groningen, Netherlands. The club competes in the BNXT League and its home arena is MartiniPlaza, which has a seating capacity of 4,350 people. The 2017–18 Basketball Champions League was the second season of the Basketball Champions League (BCL), a European-wide professional basketball competition for clubs, that was launched by FIBA. The competition began on 19 September 2017, with the qualifying rounds, and concluded on 6 May 2018. The Final Four, which was held 4–6 May, was hosted at the Olympic Indoor Hall in Athens, Greece. It is the top-level competition organised by FIBA Europe, therefore the champion participates in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup.
