BC Nizhny Novgorod (russian: БК «Нижний Новгород»), commonly known as simply Nizhny Novgorod, also known as Pari Nizhny Novgorod for sponsorship reasons, is a Russian professional basketball club from the city of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. The team participates in the VTB United League and FIBA Europe Cup. History Basketball club Nizhny Novgorod is the only professional men's basketball team in Nizhny Novgorod and the region. It was founded in 2000 on the basis of the team of the Volzhsky Engineer-Pedagogical Institute (VIPI). It played in the Russian Third Division. Alexander Khairetdinov became the general director, main coach and doctor. In the 2001–02 season the club was named Nizhegorodsky Basketball Academy, or NBA. Since then it had changed several names: NBA (2001–2002), NBA-Seti-NN (2002–2004), NBA-Telma (2004–2006). Zoran Lukić (basketball)
Zoran Lukić ( sr-cyr, Зоран Лукић; born 7 September 1971) is a Serbian professional basketball coach. He currently serves as the head coach for Nizhny Novgorod of the VTB United League and the FIBA Europe Cup, and the Russian national team. Coaching career Lukić started his coaching career in 1995 when he joined the coaching staff of Serbian team Beopetrol (later renamed to Atlas). He worked there as an assistant coach under Zoran Krečković, Slobodan Klipa, Predrag Badnjarević, and Zoran Slavnić. In August 2006, Lukić came to Russia, becoming the head coach for CSKA Moscow 2, a youth system of CSKA Moscow. VTB United League
VTB United League (russian: Единая Лига ВТБ) is an international professional men's club basketball list of basketball leagues, league that was founded in 2008. It is made up of mostly Russian clubs, along with one each from Belarus and Kazakhstan. Since VTB United League 2013–14, 2013, it is the Russian basketball league system, first tier of Russian professional club basketball. Therefore, the highest placed Russian team in the league is also named list of Russian basketball champions, Russian national champions. The league is sponsored by Russian state-owned VTB Bank. In 2008 PBC CSKA Moscow, CSKA Moscow won VTB United League Promo-Cup, but this competition does not count as official VTB title. Gal Mekel
Gal Mekel ( he, גל מקל, pronounced ; born March 4, 1988) is an Israeli former professional basketball player. He played for the Dallas Mavericks and spent time in Europe and Israel. He played college basketball for two years at Wichita State University. He then played in the Israeli Super League for Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Gilboa Galil, and Maccabi Haifa, and in the Italian Serie A League for Benetton Treviso. He was a two-time Israeli Super League MVP, in 2011 and 2013. He was the Israeli Premier League Assists Leader in 2011 and 2016. In 2013, he signed a three-year minimum fully guaranteed contract with the Dallas Mavericks, becoming the second Israeli to join the NBA; he also holds a Polish passport. The 2013–14 VTB United League was the 5th complete season of the VTB United League. The tournament featured 20 teams, from 10 countries during the season, 2 more teams than the previous year. Russian Professional Basketball League
The Professional Basketball League (russian: Профессиональная баскетбольная лига (ПБЛ), Professionalʼnaya basketbolʼnaya liga), often abbreviated to the PBL, was the pre-eminent men's professional basketball league in Russia, and the successor to the Russian Super League 1, which is now the second-tier division of the Russian basketball league system. The PBL was the second version of the Russian Professional Basketball Championship.
